Third month, Twenty-ninth day
Year Three of the Recent Awakenings
The Mirror of Horn and Ivory
In Obedience to the Will of the Court Chronicler, I hereby scribe this accounting of the happenings surrounding the Mirror of Horn and Ivory, and the strange disappearance of sera Sara.
On the evening of the twenty-eighth of this moon, several persons entered the Eastern Coutyard of the Outer Bailey. Among them were First Acolyte Charmiam and a black cat wearing a golden collar set with tigers-eye, who has been known to residents as 'Duvessa'. The first Acolyte was bearing a mirror which showed a strange reflection, although what it was could not easily be discerned. The group left through the northern passageway, and shortly thereafter reappeared, this time in the company of the Lord Chamberlain, Sir Launfal, who was now carrying the mirror.
Somewhat later, in an interview with Falconer Gwenvar, more details came to light. In the Falconer's words, "I was in the Inner Bailey courtyard, the First Acolyte was there. After greetings, she asked if there were any news about the Mirror, and I said no, as there was none. Then ser Andrew came in, and after a short while, so did Duvessa. The cat seemed quite discontent, and the First Acolyte was kind to her. She- the First Acolyte- also asked ser Andrew after the Mirror, but again, no news. She seemed quite concerned about it, but then she went on the topic of Apprentice Elea, who appears to be missing, along with Lady Serista. Of course, this disquieted the cat, but.. some time later, sera Sara came into the courtyard, holding the mirror, quite jubillant."
The Falconer continued her description of the incident, saying 'She was smiling, and saying things like 'Look what I found!' and such. She went on to say that the Mirror was speaking to her, nodding to it and listening, smiling brightly and so on. It was an odd thing, no reflection at all, though strangely elegant in its way. It shimmered once. ...Ser Johnathan ... asked if he could get a better look. The First Acolyte, she's close to Sara, see, hugged her, but still seemed concerned. She asked, quite urgently, after what it was saying. But Sara never answered. She touched the mirror, and then, it shimmered again, much more brightly.."
The Falconer described '"--As Sara touches the Mirror of Horn and Ivory, it begins to shimmer brightly. Suddenly, a white light engulfs Sara, bathing her in a blinding blue-white glow. When the light returns to the mirror, Sare goes with it, her joyous laughter echoing faintly. The mirror falls to the ground and all those present can see movement within the mirror where there was none before." When the Mirror was examined, Falconer Gwenvar reports, one saw 'A beautifully made oval wall mirror with a unique frame made of what appears to be horn and ivory intertwined. It is about 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide. Strangely, what is reflected in the mirror is not what is facing it. In the mirror, you see a lush grassy meadow filled with flowers, butterflies and bees. Off to one side is a small pond. Near the pond is a small, adorable cottage. You can also see a pretty girl of creamy complexion with a full head of silky, braided honey blonde hair with a violet flower. She is barefoot and is wearing a red muslin sleeveless gown, pair of gold and beryl earrings, an apricot felt pouch, a white gauze long-sleeved chemise, a white worsted girdle, a gold and beryl pendant, and an amethyst gold ring. The girl is contentedly playing with a kitten."
Falconer Gwenvar concluded 'It was all so sudden, I'm not sure what to think. The First Acolyte, she put her cape over the mirror so as not to see the reflection, and then she left with sers Andrew and Johnathan.'
