The Duel Between ser Elesin and ser Edouard
In accordance with the will of the Lord Chamberlain, and in continuing the traditions of the Guild of Chroniclers, I hereby scribe this accounting of the duel between ser Elesin and ser Edouard, and of the death of ser Edouard.
On Wodensday last, this Chronicler did observe sera Helene, one of Her Majesty's Courtiers, behaving in an unusual fashion. The Chronicler noted that sera Helene seemed rushed and distressed, and that her hair was butchered and mussed. Fearing that something was seriously amiss, the Chronicler mentioned the occurance to Mistress Martina, who volunteered to try to find Courtier Helene, and assist, if that was possible. Sera Astana and Mistress Martina did find sera Helene, but were shocked to realize that there were a number of other people gathered at the foot of the tower that leads to the lower terrace and the Summer Tower. The group left through the door onto the terrace, blocking it as they went. Several of the persons were very oddly dressed, being clad only in plain overtunics, and at least one, sera Faer, appeared drugged or dazed. Since a number of the persons so gathered are known not to have access to the Inner Bailey, and since the door was securely blocked, it was felt that help should be summoned. Within a few minutes, a group consisting of Yeoman Darvius, Yeoman Myrth, Preceptor Umichan, Chronicler Astana and ser Edouard had gathered to attempt to force the door and investigate the proceedings.
The door resisted the first several attempts to break it open, but was eventually forced. When the Yeomen and their helpers emerged onto the terrace, they witnessed ser Elesin dancing wildly, and sera Faer chanting at the sky. Also present were Initiate Ra'Dorcha, sera Helene, sera Isadora, ser Diantos, ser Xevec and sera Blossom.
Ser Elesin paused, shouted 'NOOOOO!' towards the sky, and then exclaimed 'This will end now!'. He then turned to ser Edouard and hissed 'You will not ssstop thiss freedom, fool! No one can ssstop it!' Ser Elesin lifted a black longsword threateningly towards ser Edouard, who replied 'I can, and I will'. Ser Elesin informed ser Edouard 'You could not ssstop Ravien from killing friendsss and Family. You could not ssstop Morte, you will not ssstop me now!" Ser Elesin once more cried 'I am almossst free!'
While sera Faer continued to chant at the sky, ser Edouard stepped forward and challenged ser Elesin, saying 'No? Then fight me, and we'll see who is right.' The two sers battled fiercely, in a duel of epic proportions. Ser Elesin screamed 'I took her hand!..I took her heart!..I shall take yourss to match!..I have all their ssskillss put together, you cannot win!..Time..time, the time hasss come!' Both ser Elesin and ser Edouard sustained grave wounds, but as the battle hung in the balance, suddenly ser Elesin chanted, and the black longsword seemed to shimmer. Irresistably it seemed, ser Edouard was driven back, until his guard was pierced, and he was impaled on the blade of his opponent. Immediately, there was a blinding glare from the black sword, and when vision cleared, it appeared that ser Elesin was cloaked in some sort of shadow, while ser Edouard, transfixed by the blade, died agonizingly. Growling, 'I told you....I make dreamss come true!', ser Elesin withdrew the pulsing sword from ser Edouard's lifeless body, and heaved the corpse over the parapets and into the Abyss.
Ser Elesin threw his head back, screaming victoriously. To the horror and shock of all those watching, suddenly he, too, arched in agony, shrieked, and fell to the pavement. Writhing helplessly, the hilt of the black sword still clutched tightly in his hand, ser Elesin retched as the shadow was ejected forcefully from his body to gather visibly in a dark, formless shape above him. Once more, the black sword flared, blinding everyone. A soundless scream echoed, and when sight returned, the reaching shadow was gone. The sword clattered to the ground, pulsed satedly, and was still.
Yeoman Darvius ordered that all of those who had gathered on the terrace should be incarcerated in the lower dungeons until the matter was fully investigated. Imprisoned were ser Elesin, sera Faer, Initiate Ra'Dorcha, sera Helene, sera Isadora, ser Diantos, ser Xevec and sera Blossom.
As always, this Chronicler begs that inaccuracies be pointed out, that they may expeditiously be corrected.
