First off I would like to say that the new traits system is awsome. Great work GMs. Now to my question...Will we be able to use the traits system with our old characters? I think that this would be nice because we can add more depth to our characters.

Yep, in the next few weeks we'll set something up so that we can retrofit old characters with the new goodies in the the character generator, namely Traits and Flaws and Nationality Abilities.

This wont affect our current traits will it? Like speed and strength and such? I am pretty happy with my 150/150 hp and good endurance :D

Hey, I actually went through and wrote out all the traits, their descriptions, and their values...27 positive, 28 negative, and 8 neutral....if you want it, let me know...it's rather lengthy. Best way is to probably send me a private message...not sure, really, cause I haven't tinkered with this system long enough to know what's what.

Anyway....let me know and I'll set you up...someone else posted the nationality bonus traits somewhere else...if you need that too.

Hey Celtor,

Well, I'm glad someone wrote that list out. I bet Scott would like it if you mailed it to him though, and I wager he'd put it into the help files asap, too. At least, I'd certainly hope so.

Love the changes everyone.

Japes had posted this message on the internal forums, which aren't visible anymore. Thought I'd repost for him since there've been some questions about it:

------------------
To clarify an issue for those of you complaining that your traits aren't working....

While character generation is complete and fully functional, we are still working on implementing the traits. We've made good progress so far and a large portion of the traits are already working. Its expected that all the traits available in character generation will be operational within a few days.

Hey Scott, thanks for reposting that; it's reassuring. And Celtor - I too would be interested in getting a copy of your list emailed to me. However, I think it'd be even better if you posted it here. Thanks.

Scott - question:

If you pick worldly knowledge, do you get to pick the languages you have learned to speak?

Rather than send out a multitude of emails...here's the list of traits, broken into smaller parts, since there seems to be a limit on the allowed post length. If you still want me to email the complete document, please send your email addy to me in a private message and I'll get it out to you asap.

Enjoy!

Very interesting...the neutral traits remind me of the traits in Fallout.

Does Weather Prediction work yet? I made a character with it and doing "look sky" doesn't seem to get anything relating to the weather.

Ooooh, I missed the Pack Rat trait completely, man, that fits my main character perfertly... :)
(and anyone who's seen him knows why. ;))

And the fear traits are interesting, can certainly do something with those, especially as they'll be added to my main character after events that would give him reason to fear it.

On a side note, why not add a fear of Dogs and that like too? (maybe even water) Sure anyone who's been eaten by a hound, wolf, esecarnus would have reason enough for it...

On a side side note, would it be possible to gain positive/negative traits after certain events or something? Maybe after a particularly nasty encounter with a carrion snake your character would develop a fear of them, or if they're extremely active only at night, using little light, for a 'very' long time, may gradually develop better night vision. (of course, at the discretion of a GM, wouldn't be the kinda thing that would be automated)

All I have to say, Celtor, is that that list was truly excellent and enlightening. Good job! The only question I have is, how in Ereal's name did you figure that all out...? ;)

Thanks! I'm glad everyone can benefit from my hour or so at the keyboard. I just sat and went through the character generator, recreating one of my characters, and typed everything into Word whilst I went through the traits. Not hard at all, just time consuming...it was especially easy considering how quiet it is when you're in the char gen now...none of that WA noise and nonsense like before. What can I say...I'm a loony with too much time on my hands :D Also, it helps that I type rather fast...

Thanks a bunch, Celtor, for the lists - you've saved me quite a bit of work. I noticed in my brief look at the character generator that there are nationality-specific traits as well, such as the Cineran "Blade Mastery". Would the GM's, or anyone else, be able to post a description of each of them as well?

Also, just to be greedy, it'd be great to see which nationalities can use the different skills.

Celtor

Here's the Nationality traits, thanks to Ember (posted originally in the "New Stuff" thread):

Iridine gets citizenship
Cinera gets blade mastery
Parcine gets Parcine Battle Cry
Aestivia gets natural builder

Remath gets Iridine, Cinera, and 1 extra language to start with
Safelands get Outdoor basics and Aversion to Violence
Gadaen gets Unpredictablility and Smooth Tounge
Sostarean gets Disciplined Mind and Anonomity

I didnt see what the self picked bonus traits/skills were, and Altenes only start with level 1 staves instead of 5 block, 5 jab, and 5 basic.

Okay is wordly knowledge the ONLY way to learn another language? Shouldn't there be some way of learning each individual langauge. It would be an excellent skill set to develop.

When you say 'Mutually Exclusive', what does that mean? Does that mean if you get two opposite traits, they both cancel out?

Mike

Annatar

It means you can't have one, if you have the other, because they would cancel each other out.

Darn it anyhow. I just spent forever today getting both the traits and flaws information and the nationality information. I wish I'd read this thread first.

By the way, Celtor, you missed the Educated trait. It's understandable. I missed Iron Will the first time through. It seems that the system sometimes doesn't give you all 28 Positive traits sometimes. Here's the Educated information for those who care:

Educated (+4)
-gives a significant bonus to reasoning and judgment

They still misspell judgment. I get a kick every time I see it. :D

I'd better stop rambling now.

who can, by the way, type at 70 wpm

Celtor
06-04-2001, 07:23 PM
I did miss educated...because that was the bonus trait that I picked, so it didn't show up in the positive traits list...thanks for catching that, I'll add it to my master list.

*goes to edit the list above*

*discovers that it's been too long since she posted that list...and so she can't edit it*

Oh well....hope people see these other posts. :D
