I happened to re-read the Guide, and I came across this interesting tidbit:

...some claim that the Counsel supports the role of Balance advocated by the Natura Balanus cult, and that the Counsel is opposed to the Duelists and works of magic as a result.

Now this is interesting. Are the Seekers/Acolytes not supposed to get along with the Duelists and mages? The only time I recall seeing something of this nature was a brief conversation between Ra'Dorcha and.....well, a sera whose name escapes me. That was a couple months ago.

So has this idea been abandoned, forgotten, or just shelved for a-while? It is my opinion that it could only make things more interesting, especially with all the recent activity. Can anyone enlighten me on this subject?

Seems like lots of people are opposed to sorcery. Most of the time it tends to be a person to person basis. In terms of which groups are against which groups, that's pretty much an in character question though. As someone in the groups you are in what their views are on other groups. I did that when I joined the Rememberers. Since the Player's Handbook makes it pretty clear that Rememberers are probably the least in favor guild (I'm excluding the secret groups which are against the Queen as those really aren't possible to join and you never advertise membership if you could get it).

In terms of what we might wish to discussing here (so we don't give out info which should be discovered IC), is the fact that the guild rivalries should be expressed more. Duelists and Watch are one that I think everyone knows, but right now it seems it is much more character to character rivalry.

There are a number of rivalries that I can think of:

Poets Brotherhood vs. Friends of the Muses (Open Warfare)
Dance Academy vs. Friends of the Muses (Restrained)
Guild of Fine Arts vs. Friends of the Muses (Restrained)

Watch vs. Duelists (Open Warfare)
Duelists vs. Battlers (lesser degree)
Battlers vs. Watch (lesser degree)

Seekers vs. Remembers (conflicting faiths)
Seekers vs. Counsel (Matters of who can/should counsel)
Seekers vs. Sorcerers (subtle for the moment)

Sorcerers vs. Healers (Still fledgling)
Sorcerers vs. Remembers (Esoteric reasons)

Remembers vs. Forgetters

Then, we have all of the secret and not-so-secret societies competing with each other.

Upcoming rivalries:
Sorcerers vs. Alchemists
Sorcerers vs. Necromancers
(Heck, Sorcerers vs. all magic not Sorcery)

I know I'm missing some but my point is, there is a potential for a lot of rivalry, friction and good role playing available.

There is a reason why Santlar has yet to make it beyond seeker status, despite being one of the first two inducted (OOC that is, since Marrach opened for beta.) Santlar will never have the same opportunities in the Faith as other members if the Priestess is the only determination. The Priestess explained that the forcing of ones will upon the universe is most certainly an act of imbalance. She acted almost as if it were an affront to the faith.

So I don't think the idea has been abandoned, but due to the alsmot passive nature of the Faith, it is not as evident. If the Faith was not so mellow, if they were more like say...the duelists, it might have been more evident.

The beauty of the Marrach is that things are always changing, alliances form in the strangest places as do rivalries.

Let me give you the background though behind the player's guide. Originally, the Counsel was opposed to dueling, as the Counsel promotes resolution through peace vs. violence. The Counsel's leader was uneasy with some things that happened that were magic related as well. She was highly involved and devoted to the Faith at the time which promotes all things natural.

But, things have changed indeed...

The Counsel in its need to stay neutral, has no stance towards other organizations now or what they do (ie. Magic, Dueling, etc), though, they do as Jenn says, battle at times with the Faith's leadership over the Counseling issue.

Hope this answer's your question!

related to this note i have a question. Can anyone think of groups that are acally allined with each other?... I have tryed to look into this IC and OOC but as far as i can tell we have these states
1) openly against
2) quietly against
3)slightly against
4) doesnt care at all
5) hey who are they

but it looks like any getting allong or alliences is on a person by person basis . is this all about right or am i missing something?

You could sorta say that the Battlers are allied with the Philosophers, though the Philosophers aren't a guild. It's an unofficial alliance, of course...

That's because one of the guys who started the Philosophy group is an Elder Teacher for the Battle Guild. :D Hehehehe

Actually, yes there are some groups with work together. Again I will point out this is an in character question. You should all be trying to find out which groups are in favor with your guilds.

When I joined the Rememberers, first thing I did was speak to Elea about it. Also spoke to each person I was learning languages from. I have also had people tell me of guilds which are alligned with each other.

But again, ask in character.

Jenn gave a wonderful list, but I think some are missing, and of course others have changed a bit. ;) I leave it to you all to find out what they are.

Oh yes... there are definately more societies that are not mentioned, that have secret hates and likes. And as a few have already said here... these are things that are best left to learn ICly.
