Heya, Shannon. You're the most prolific and most regular of the Skotos articles, and besides, I like your stuff. So I figured I'd address this question to you.

I've noticed that the number of articles being posted in a given month is lower than it was, and that many of the articles are footnotes and detail on stuff that's been done once, or rehashed. That seems especially true of the authors other than you -- though perhaps I just think that because their stuff is often less relevant to me as an implementor.

Do you think you're starting to hit the point where you've covered most bits of the "Articles on MUDs and MUDding" spectrum, so you're slowing down for lack of new areas to cover? Or is it just that you're busy doing other cool stuff right now, and so the articles get a smaller slice of the Skotos time pie?

I think the latter.

Columns inevitably have lifespans, after which the columnist feels like he's talked about everything he has to talk about and/or wants to do something else with his creative time. Thus, after a quarter or a year or two years it doesn't surprise me when a column comes to its end. (Personally, I've dropped my column back to biweekly primarily to ward off this burn-out, as I've been writing it for 3+ years now.)

What I need to do is spend some time finding people to write new columns, and I just haven't had the time/energy to do that lately. My current plan is to start work on the topic at the start of the year, after everyone has holidays off the brain.

And, if you are interested in writing a column or know anyone who is, drop me a line. There's no filthy lucre in it, but there is acclaim at writing for what I think is the best game design site on the web right now.

I'm honored that you'd ask me. I'll see if I can come up with a good topic for a column.

And I agree with your assessment of Skotos' site. Certainly in the MUD community, nobody else comes close.
