It is I, the maker of maps. Here to tell you a basic overview of how they will work in Mortalis Victus.

First thing to mention is the Character Generator. I wont go into detail, but the maps are actually images. While they wont help you know which way to go just looking at the map, it will give you a sense of where you are. As for the Chargen itself.. I'll let one of the other expound about it's majesty and greatness ;)

Second thing is that these maps are more artistic and a bit less 'functional'. Now, before I scare you away, I think they are functional enough. However, they are made to look somewhat realistic and many of them will not have Marrach's red X on them. Those that need such an X, like inside buildings and such, will. But the outside maps will mostly be the images themselves. It is my hope that people will enjoy the maps. I know I enjoyed making them.

Sounds intriguing.

Will a certain scale be adhered to on the maps at all time? I have dabbled in a few MUD's where navigation was so frustrating because of variation in scale. I would move four north, two east, six south, and one west and be at the same spot i started in, having traversed a complete circle. However, that confuses a lot because the different areas are different sizes, so one "room" may be 40x40 while the next room is 5x5, and there is usually little if any indication on the maps that the scale has changed at all.

Second, are the maps a tileset of premade tiles set together to form the map (such as in Grendels Revenge) or is the map unique to each area you are at?

I can't wait to hear more on the Character generation system, combat system, and the alternate ways of advancement besides combat from you guys too!

The maps themselves can vary in the scale they show, but logistically it should be pretty straight forward. If you go N, E, S, W, you'll most likely end up where you were. Unless, of course, you've found one of those se... well, I wont say too much ;)

There are few reused map portions, because the areas were so alike. Meaning your character may not be able to tell the areas apart easily. But for the most part, the maps are unique to the area.
