I need some help in getting my character, Jayland, going. I hope to make him into a Magical scholar speciallizing in Alchemy and Sorcery with a interest in Engineering--which is what he was before comming to Marrach.
But most importantly, he'll start remembering his past--starting with his last name (Day) and his sudden explanations of magical theory whenever such explanations are needed. Plus, there's the constant vision of a aged man in very ornate robes pointing a single long bony finger at him--which troubles him.
I do not intend to do this in a rush, which will cause too much damage to a great many things, instead I'll have it come out in dribs and drabs--preferibly as he's studying these subject at Marrach, or when something needs explaning.
Also, though not as 'groundbreaking', Jayland's become attracted to Sera Cassandra, but is a little on the bashful side when it comes to admitting this. But Jayland will come to her defence, and will seek her out for company and information.
Can anybody help me fine-tune him because I'm playing tomarrow and hopefully monday. Your help will be appreacheated.
Thank you,
Darren Brimhall

Dear Darren
Well, here is what good ol' Andronicus can tell ya. If you want to become and alchemist send scrolls, lots of them if necessary, to Master Orson (address the scroll to orson). Be prepared to use your best sales pitch, as Orson is both reclusive and eccentric.
For magic try talking to characters such as Elea, Erin, Benedict and others. They are apprentice mages and more approachable than Lady Serista. The price of magic is not small, and will be difficult.
For engineering, I have heard of no one who teahces that...yet. Bring it up with Launfal, the Lord Chamberlain.
For help with memories turn to the Rememberers, with such members as Felix, Lobo and Evayne.
That was the more easily accomplished stuff in a nutshell. Developing your character is never easy. When I begain playing, Andrew was a weird dude who kicked cats in his spare time. Now he is a seasoned inhibitant, has connections out the rear and has a beloved he will gladly die for.
My recommendation is to allow Jayland Day to grow in reaction to his environment and to take it slow. If you force his personality into a mold you are set on, his developement may seem forced and unnatural. Of course, you must be happy with the result. Also remember that character development is a continuous event, and never truely completed.
Try hooking up with Andrew, the collector of stories. He is stricken mute right now, but under normal situations he is one of the most informative guys around.
Best of luck
Andronicus

Oh, yea! I almost forgot! You got the hots for Cassandra! Well, I think someone else is wooing her, but you can try.
Andrew is notorious for extreme....non-bashfulness. He can either get your character over his bashfulness and on the way to romance, or publicly humiliated and charged with sexual harrassment. Once again Andrew is mute, so while still lecherous, his usefulness is somewhat limited.

Thanks for the info and the warnings..
I'll be seeing Ser Lobo in the Afternoon in his office, if I don't haft to track him down.
Also, how do you get your character into bed?
I haven't figured out how to pull the covers back to get in?

What I'm using for my charater's past is a mixture of LORD DARCY with Michel Morecock's NOMAD OF THE TIME STREAMS, and some of arron Allston's DOC SIDHE (and sudo Doc Savage tale set on the Ferie World opposite of our own--where technology is only sixty years behind ours, and Magic is all powerful.
But as I said, I'm going to take this slowly, or at least play out the heavy dramatic parts alone with Ser Lobo--who I hopw will keep things confidental.

So, you fancy Cassandra? She's flattered by the attention and really enjoys being helpful. As Andrew suggests there is someone in her life. But she'll always talk to you. By the way I just figured out how to get in that nice cozy bed, you can either 'lie under sheets' or 'lie under blanket'. Pleasant dreams!

Hi, Darren -
Might I gently suggest that this topic does not belong on the In-Character bulletin board? Not intended in any way as a slam, just a gentle reminder for future reference.
Good luck with RPing Jayland!

Hello Darren et al.,
As Kimberly suggested, this thread was in the wrong forum, so I have moved it to the appropriate. The IC board should be only for posts that are written by your character (or by some anonymous source in the castle). We're hoping to someday have link from within the game itself to that forum, so you can read the posts without having to stop by this web site. Not sure when (or even if) that will happen, but we'll keep you posted.
Regarding the matter of contacting StoryHosted characters--please, please, please don't submit multiple scrolls with the same request to NPCs. If they do not respond immediately, it is not because they are ignoring you ICly (and if they were, would bothering them with multiple scrolls really help your case). There are other, behind-the-scenes reasons why some characters are not active, or are only intermittantly so, the most common one being that we simply don't have the time. We are still perfecting the secrets to juggling the appearances of the numerous NPCs with the need to actually make those NPCs interesting to play with, and not just faces that walk on, say their lines, then walk off (face it, would anyone care about the Roland-Edouard thing if the two men hadn't made personal alliances among the players?). Not to mention, we are still short-handed--a problem that should be rectified soon.
We know you want to see Master Orson, and that you want Dame Oriana to come back, and it would be great if Zia were to come around more frequently--but please, please, please: no multiple scrolls! It's hard enough to sort through a pile of character's mail without having to sift through a bunch that are identical...
In the meantime, I do promise to make an effort to have these characters respond to the mail they currently have sometime this week.

Thank you for your help. Jayland has yet to contact Master Orson requarding the matter of Achemisty, but he is currently trying to contact Ser Lobo over his dreams/memories.
Also, and this does seem like a dumb question, (but then I can be concidered a bit dense and time poor, but) can you tell me where the IC Board is so I can poast as Jayland?
It would be of great help to me in the future.
Thank you,
Darren Brimhall

Um...Who's Dame Oriana?

Dame Oriana is the "ettiquette expert", and in charge of the Gardener's Society as well. Kind of like an instructor for a girls' finishing school.
IC means In Character, it's the board that this thread originally was on. That board is reserved for posts that you make as Jayland, so don't say anything that he wouldn't say in the game.
By the way, if you have trouble contacting Lobo, there are other Rememberers as well, including my character Zero (Zero is a Watchman too, though, and sometimes his duties in the Watch keep him too busy to always help everyone, but he'll help you if he can).

If it helps at all, Katherine is also a Rememberer. I'm just on vacation till this Nov. 19. If you haven't hooked up with my Uncle, Ser Lobo, by then, just send Katherine a scroll. I'll pick it up next week.

Sorry, I don't know who that is...Fred Perry? But then just ask a few of the players about me, and they'll attest to the fact that I probably don't know much about anything recent - especially any anime.

A little explanation is due..
Fred Perry is the artist/writer of GOLD DIGGER comics, published thru Antartic-Press comics.
The comic recieved a goodly dose of noterity in the movie CHASEING AMY, due to the clothing tastes of one of the movie's charaters--and I just missed out getting that one T-Shirt.
I appologize for my assumption, Sera. Apparently, it was another person who frequents the site who uses the same name.
