View Full Version : So, how does one become an Honored Guest?

Hi all,

We've received a few questions about the Honored Guest status recently given to a few members of Castle Marrach and been told that there were even more who had questions regarding it. Hopefully this message will answer those queries.

Fundamentally, Honored Guest status is an in-game rank, based upon in-game actions. The basic currency of the castle is influence, and that's what was used to determine who became Honored Guests. The founder of the Awakeners, Serista's first apprentice, the first Armsmen--those were the type of people who had won the influence to be named Honored Guests. It's all about making yourself known to the notables of Castle Marrach and gaining their Favour. (You can find some further discussion of this on page 6 of the Player's Guide.)

And the whole influence system is complex. Not all nobles nor all guilds are in favor with the court. For example, why were no prominent Remembers chosen to be Honored Guests other than Katherine, who is also the head of the Poet's Guild? It wasn't an accidental omission. The Inner Bailey isn't the end-all and be-all of Castle Marrach. It's a place where people who have made the right friends get to visit. Some characters may decide that making those friends is contrary to there other goals. Eventually, we hope to open up the catacombs under Castle Marrach. Only certain people will be privileged to visit those realms as well--and the people allowed into the Inner Bailey and the people allowed into the Catacombs will probably be very different groups of people.

We don't have our entire Favour/Influence system on line yet; when we do, it'll be easier for players to understand how much influence they've gained and with whom.

We know that there are many other players out there who have added a lot to the game without necessarily gaining influence with the right people. We know there are many players who have helped to drive plots or who have offered aid to new players. Though these actions don't necessarily garner you influence in the Castle, they do bring our thanks. We hope to offer OOC privileges to some of these players, through a special StoryGuide status, beginning next year.

Regarding guilds not currently in favor of the court and Queen...

I was curious how the Queen would handle it if she noticed Katherine's Rememberer's pin. I knew there was a chance that she'd boot Kat's butt out of there, but I took the chance anyway.

Oh, and thanks to whomever made Kat the pin for putting the Oh So Prominent description of 'Rememberer's Pin' on it when everyone else's that I know of just says 'a quill and feather pin' sorta generic description. That will add to the challenge of RPing
being a member of a an 'out-of-favor' group, and being the leader of a currently 'in-favor' group.

Will Kat survive in Inner Bailey politics? Will she have to denounce the Remeberers to keep the favor she has gained thus far? Tune in each week, same Marrach time, same Marrach channel to find out...

I've really enjoyed being both a Watchman, and a Rememberer. A member of a group respected by authority, and one disliked by them. If I ever end up in the Inner Bailey, I can't wait to see what kinds of confusion that might stir. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif

HEY! That makes me feel a whole lot better.

http://www.skotos.net/ubb/frown.gif It isn't Kat's fault that her player doesn't know how to dress her...but maybe the Queen thinks Kat is some hippy beat poet now. Can the seamstress make me black cigarette pants, a black turtleneck sweater, and a black felt beret, please? Oh! and could the 'snap' verb be added right away?

Katherine takes a drag off of her cigarette
Katherine rhythmically snaps her fingers
Katherine nods to the audience
Katherine says slowly "Coooooool."

Oh, I'm SURE that would make Lobo happy...Haven't you already given the poor man enough grey hairs?

I was wondering where it said, if at all, which guilds were in or out of favor.

Katherine,

I'm sure the Queen was too busy looking at your bare feet to notice your Rememberer's Pin. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/wink.gif

So here is a really silly question from a player whose character is now an Honored Guest.

How exactly do I get into the Inner Bailey? The guards let Kiera, but the Arch is always locked, even during SH hours. Are there only certain times or reasons?

The Inner Bailey will probably be opened to honored guests sometimes after the holidays. I believe our developers are still perfecting the technique for letting through those so designated... We'll be sure to let you know when it's ready!
