Hiya,

I know somewhere in ther forum, someone mentioned something about linking character websites. I can't find it. So, I'm starting a new thread.

Yes. I'm a geekette and a gamer. I've geeked out and created a website for my character Elea. It's short. I just created it. Feel free to check it out and comment on it if you want.

Thanks

I've been toying with the idea, I currently have the capabilities on my home site to give "GeoCities" style webpages to users. If there is enough interest, I would be more then happy to branch off a section for players of Marrach to put up profiles in one area.

If your interested, please email me so I can get an idea of interest (or anything else you would wish to see if I go ahead with it) Thanks.

I hope everyone is able to find this here ... I may post it elsewhere, as well.

I've put the edited partial transcript of last night's informal poetry gathering on my website. You can access it from http://www.erzo.org/~kimberly/marrach/.

As some of you may have noticed at the time, I had some trouble cutting and pasting this transcript last night. As a result, there are some sections of the meeting which got missed ... but all the poems are there.

This cutting and pasting problem resulted from the fact that I'm using the Java client on my Mac. If any poets are using the Active-X client on their IBMs (in Internet Explorer), you can apparently log a whole scene without cutting and pasting, just by clicking on a button. (Color me jealous.)

If someone else who has this ability could do the actual logging at future meetings, I would still be happy to edit and post the transcripts.

- Kimberly (aka Punzel)

PS - We discovered today that there may be a temporary problem accessing our server ... so if you have trouble accessing the page, give it a try later. The transcript *is* there.

I'd like to just let you all know that my site is now working. (The server problem is fixed.)

So all you poets can go have a look at the edited transcript of Sunday's meeting (and check out the cool Poets' Rosette graphic my husband and I created!).

I'm also putting links to any other Castle Marrach pages on my page, so if anyone else has a Marrach page, let me know!

I can't tell you how pleased I've been to see your player web sites!! http://www.skotos.net/ubb/wink.gif

I am sure I speak for the entire team that it is incredibly gratifying to see the joy and creativity that you have been putting into your characters. It validates the long hours and late nights that we've spent to try to make the best game possible for you.

Thank you!

-- Christopher Allen

P.S. Just a note that we hope to offer in the medium term future (by January?) every player and every character personal web pages, and in the longer term private email addresses. But the game comes first!

Folks,

We've now created a page that links in all of the Marrach player websites. You can find it linked in from the main Marrach web page:
http://www.skotos.net/games/marrach/index.html

If you have a website that isn't listed here, please mail marrach-links@skotos.net and/or post here.

Here is my rough webpage for Kiera. Keep in mind this is OOC stuuf; no fair using it in the game! http://www.skotos.net/ubb/wink.gif

Yes, thank you, Kiera, for mentioning the OOC request.

Most things on my website (the URL is above, in my earlier post) are fine for folks to use IC: lists of upcoming castle events, info about guilds, etc.

The only exception is Punzel's journal. I'm posting that because I enjoy writing it, and think that some players may be interested in reading it, but it does give a decidedly skewed perspective (especially of Punzel's recent conversations with Sera Anastacia!), and does give information that players should assume that their characters do not know unless Punzel has told them IC.

If folks have any suggestions for or comments about my website, you should feel free to email me at punzel@erzo.org.

I have updated my site with a page on the Guild of the Awakened. Also there are notes on each page whether info is IC or OOC (Each full page is either IC or OOC).

And I encourage anyone who is thinking about doing a web page to try! I am not a techie by any means, but I spent maybe four hours total to get my site up and where it is now.

I'd like to try a webpage - I've been looking at other people's, and it looks like a good idea. One question - does anyone know of any good, easy website-making places? Cuz I've never done this before. Let me know, k? (And it would be totally cool to have character sites and addresses here at Skotos, ya know?)
Well, cya'll later . . .

We will definitely have character sites and addresses ... eventually. We may even have some primitive functionality in the next 3 months, but it'll be a bit before we have the full functionality up there.

In the meantime, perhaps Kiera can comment on how easy to use www.geocities.com (http://www.geocities.com) is? That's one of the public home page cites.

Other suggestions?

I used the Geocities software Pagebuilder. When you register with Geocities, you get free website and access to the software.

I had never done this so it took a bit of getting used to, but it isn't tough. The one thing I have noticed is when working with imported .gif files (graphics)it can be unstable. Beyond that, it is an OK program.

I must admit that I had help setting up mine from a good friend that makes websites all the time. But once we got it set up, I use the tools provided by Tripod to add stuff to it, and it's really easy. Even if you have never made a webpage I think you should give it a try, it is really not very hard at all, and best of all, it's free.

I have been doing web pages for myself for 3 years now. Of course, both the websites I used to maintain are now down because I do not do these two projects. However, One that got some attenttion was called Arden - World of Adventure.

If you would like, I can give some tips on doing html. It really is a simple language to learn, and there are plenty of places that could you could get online tutorial from. Many free hosting sites also give some kind of html editor that are pretty easy to use. If you are looking for advice just email me and I will help you out as best as I can. I have a suggestion: If players were given a command to set the webpage for thier character, then when somebody issues a 'who' command, the names themselves could be links to their respective sites. If there isn't one set for that character, then thier name shows without the link.

A command related to 'who', something like 'directory', could make the same kind of list showing all registered characters who have websites set for them, regardless of if they are currently logged on.

I use Flash for my web pages http://jeffcrook.20m.com http://qigung.20m.com

It's a little more intuitive than html programming, looks cool, and you can do interactive stuff fairly easily. However, it is a program that you have to buy.

Dreamweaver is also a good tool. Very intuitive.

I have done web pages in Pagemaker and Word as well. You just save it or export it as html. The quality isn't so good, but at least you get something started, and then you can look at the html and start learning a little about how to use it.

Once you have a web page, you can get a web site at geocities or somewhere else. I use 20m.com because you get to put your name first, whereas with geocities it comes last, ... .com/yourname. Also, with 20m you can monitor your site to see where visitors are linking from.

Next, find a good web ring and join it. I haven't looked for good online rpg webrings, but I am a member of a Dragonlance webring that brings me 30-60 hits per day. They tell me that this, in turn, is bringing hits to Skotos. We like that!

We were thinking about something like this. It's a bit tricky because of the OOC or character-private content that appears on some web pages. But, we're thinking about an initial, auto-generated web page which contains certain extended details about your character that you can click on in the game to pop up. Pretty cool. A bit in the future.

Hi Everyone,

Two things:

First, I have added some of my drawings to my website. If you would like to see how I see a few of you, please drop by and have a look.

Second, someone is trying to get my website's password. I don't know why anyone would want to mess with my site, but I ask, please don't. The site represents alot of work on my part, and because I don't get to play as often as I'd like, it is my way of contributing more to the Marrach community.

I am not exactly the most computer savvy person on the planet, but I decided I wanted to learn HTML. And what better guinea pig than a character web site for Santlar? So I bought a $20 HTML book, logged onto Tripod’s Free Form editor and started coding.

Well, one week later, I have not gotten far, but thought you all might like to log on, and see what I think Santlar looks like. I plan to have a journal. I thought maybe it could give the newly awakened some idea of what is going on.

Anyway, check it out. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif Email me any comments: santlar@hotmail.com

The site will continue to change as I learn more. But be patient, I’m not a computer person, yet. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/wink.gif

If you'll get permission from your roommate for that sketch of you to put it in the game, I'll make a paper 'sketch' that you can have in the game. If he has a character in the game, I'll make it 'signed' by his character name.

character websites, etc

I have a related question - closely enough related that I didn't want to start a new thread. I know of lot of y'all have created websites for your characters (I'm manfully resisting doing the same for Chavelle) but how many of you have found pictures (with or without building a web site to go along) for your character?

Wanna share?

I was thinking of creating a page *just* of character pix, linking back to individual's websites, as appropriate. Having pix would be a luvly break from trying to memorize so many prose descriptions... Although maybe I'm the only one having that trouble... http://www.skotos.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Whaddya think?

Drop a line to me at johanna@skaro.com

PS my pix for Chavelle can be found at http://www.skaro.com/write/marrach/vivien_solari_4.jpg and ../../vivien_solari_5.jpg - hee hee

Hey there,

Yeah, I realized my goof, *after* posting my previous missive. Maxima mea culpa.

Addreama and I have been chatting, and we're doing a bit of sharing-of-skills to get the best of both worlds going. Keep an eye on her site for some additions, soon! http://www.skotos.net/ubb/wink.gif

Andriss, that is basically what Addreama's site is. It has other content, but mainly it's a site devoted to displaying pictures that represent how characters in the castle might look. I've been helping out Addreama by finding pics on the web and suggesting them to players for their characters, and emailing them to her. If you have pictures for your character already (as Elea and Retribution did) I'm sure Addreama would be more than happy to put them on her site. I'll go ahead and take a look at the link you posted myself as well.

This is still slightly premature, but may as well post this now...

I have created a web site for the Poets' Brotherhood and the Rememberer's Guild.

Please visit it at: http://my.voyager.net/~stealthkat

At the moment I only really have the main page and the structure down. Poets and Rememberers, please send me any information/poetry you would like posted under your name. Everyone else, feedback is welcome.

Hopefully I'll get around to polishing it up this weekend...and don't forget the next regular meeting of the Poets' Brotherhood is this Sunday, Jan 7 at seven bells! See ya there!
