These are very cool things .....
But I was wondering what the idea was behind it, on the Skotos side of things?
Personally, I think a library of books written by the residents of the castle would be a very cool thing. Granted, as it was pointed out to me, that's what some of the character web pages are for ... but I still think an In Game library would be good. Plus, a number of those web pages are private thoughts ... things that should not brought into the game, IC.
I plan on using my book as a pseudo diary and notes on the formation of the Battle Guild Charter. I know that others will eventually read it, so it won't be of an extremely personal nature, but it will still be extremely IC.
So ... for those of us who have received books this eve (and those who planning on hunting their own book down) .. What will you be using it for?

I think books would be very helpful for the chroniclers, so that Andrew and Angron as examples do not need to shuffle through 100 some odd scrolls in their rooms to get information they need.

Angron, not having a book to play with.. I was with Avaria and found to put lines in the book you need to use a HTML command..
write :
Table of contents <BR>
1) Table 1 <BR>
I think you use the command that way, or like this:
Table of contents
<BR>
1) Table 1
<BR>
Not having a book, I know not which it is.

Dagaron, you are a Chronicler, I'm sure you can ask for a book from Lord Launfal. The second one is the right one.And it worked, thanks Avaria! http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif

I tried that in mine and it bugged the hell out of it. I couldn't even read the page. I had to erase it and start again.

Welcome to the fact that the java client doesn't parse HTML, and won't for quite some time. The beta client (and hopefully soon official java client) does support <br> but on'y the lower case version, as its a special case thing.

Or Launfal..I swear he needs a book to keep up with the 15+ scrolls he seems to recieve each day http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif
Books are probably very much in beta right now, but one issue I've found is that I can't make lines in them like with scrolls. On my scrolls, I could do stuff like this:
write on my scroll "Dear GenericName,"
write on my scroll " "
write on my scroll "GenericLine1"
write on my scroll "GenericLine2"
And so on. It will present it as:
'Dear GenericName,
GenericLine1
GenericLine2'
When I tried to do something
similar to my book, by adding a Table of
Contents in the front of my book..
write on my first page "Table of Contents"
write on my first page "1)Content1"
write on my first page "2)Content2"
write on my first page "3)Content3"
write on my first page "4)Content4"
write on my first page "5)Content5"
It displayed as:
'Table of Contents 1)Content1 2)Content2 3)Content3 4)Content4 5)Content5 '
I can't seem to write lines myself at the moment, and this limits their usefulness to me. I hope that I'll be able to write lines in them in the future..

Books have been modified to behave just
like the scrolls. Sorry for the inconvenience ... I didn't realize our Guests were into advanced formatting. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif

So are you saying all the scrolls I put in a book yesterday are now in a format that most people can not read?
*hold my head*
Thank you very much for several more hours of work.

If Skotos/people ask nicely, I can make <BR> work as well. Its not hard to do, but then its hard to talk about it, as you can't type a <br> or <BR> to someone else. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif

Welcome to your life as a Chronicler, Dagaron. =)
Real work in a virtual enviroment.
More seriously, why don't you use
notepad and copy-and-paste to simplify repetive phrases like "write on first page".Saves you from getting carpal tunnel and alot of time.
Sincerely,
Ser Angron

If Ravelyn was bleesed enough to have a book she would write short stories, novelettes, and poetry. She would doodle and sketch and jot down notes and things to remember. She would make an account of her posessions and also use it as an informal journal.

Oh tell me about it ravelyn.. Myrth's been begging for weeks.. though trying desperately not to make a nusiance of herself!
She's been reserved about it thus far but is getting ready to grab the ankles of any chroniclers she knows and refuse to let go!
*grinz* I'll wait for a while to do that..

So many adorable seras. So few books. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/frown.gif
More seriously, I have only two books,
both which I need personally, one for
documentation and one for the guild
description tome. The other Chroniclers each
have two at most.Probably one.Until Lord
Launfal returns to his office, neither I nor
any Chronicler can't get anymore books.
I suggest talking to people who own books at
the moment to see if they are willing to
trade it for something or perhaps give it to
you. There are, after all, over twenty books
in the Outer Bailey.
Sincerely,
Ser Angron
