It's been a year now since Castle Marrach went live to the Internet community, and in that year there have been many terrific stories told in the Castle--by Skotos staff, by Marrach players, and more recently by our StoryPlotters and Veteran Players. We know that Castle Marrach contains a lot of very creative people, and we'd like to be able to expand that creativity to another medium: fiction.

Hence, we are now announcing The Castle Marrach Story, Poetry, and Artwork Contest.

The purpose of this contest is to provide a great excuse for you, our players, to write original creative works about Castle Marrach and the events therein. The best submissions, once edited and approved, will be published in a book which we'll be selling. We'll also be giving out some prizes to the very best works.

We are looking for original artwork, short stories, and poetry. They can be submitted to Skotos Tech via email at marrachcontest@skotos.net. The contest begins on October 1, 2001. The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2001.

Submission Guidelines:

All work must be original and submitted by its creator. If accepted, it becomes the property of Skotos Tech Inc., and we may publish it at our discretion.

The topic of such creative works should revolve around the Skotos Tech setting "Castle Marrach"--its players, events, and setting.

Permission should be obtained from the players of other characters in the game if you are going to include them in your submissions. This is not mandatory, but definitely a polite thing to do. You do not need to request permission of NPCs, however; the decision on how well you portray them will be made by the judges of the contest.

You may submit up to three (3) seperate items for consideration, but only one prize will be awarded per person.

Any stories, poems, or other materials submitted as part of the Castle Marrach contest must be accompanied by the following notice:

"This material is submitted as participatory content under the current Terms of Service available at the www.skotos.net web site. I understand that this material might be published as part of a book of Castle Marrach fiction, art, and poetry, though there is no obligation by Skotos Tech to do so. I understand that this material will also be judged as part of a contest."

Format Guidelines:

Short Story submissions should be no longer than 15,000 words and must be double-spaced. Subject matter must not be prurient or pornographic in nature, and should be suitable for ages 15+.

Poetry submissions can be of any length.

Artwork should be at least 200 dpi resolution for color or grayscale art and 600 dpi resolution for black and white art.

The Prizes:

Submissions will be judged by a panel of the Marrach Storyplotters and one or more Skotos Tech employees.

There are three prize categories as well as a grand prize.

Submissions from Skotos Tech employees or StoryPlotters, their families, or relatives are not eligible for prizes. However, they are eligible for inclusion in the book.
