I can only agree wholeheartedly with the topic of this column. Development of High Noon has dragged out long past expectations due largely to the fact that my own spark of enthusiasm failed to start a fire in anyone else. While there are great chunks of work that I know I could do entirely on my own, my creativity flags when there's no one around to share ideas and accomplishments with.
I must confess to a wee bit of envy at the large team collected so rapidly collected for the newest kid on the block. :) Leaves me wondering where I took it wrong...

I suppose even the most enthuasiatic and energetic developer cannot be expected to accomplish a project all alone with insufficient aid from other people.

If you're talking about the MV team, then I'm actually writing an article about why we "made it". I (perhaps hopefully) believe that I've gained some valuable experience in the process of leading the game as far as I have.
One of the most important things, I believe, is not to do it alone. Not to go into it alone, I mean. There was a chain of events before the actual proposal to Skotos, in which I talked to various future-members of the team about the idea. Some of them were enthused as heck, and some weren't. The former more or less formed the core of the team and we were able to take it from nil to alpha on our own.
After you come that far, I think the players of your alpha test(s) will realize what a wonderful idea you have in that head of yours, and will enthusiastically jump on the team, if you are willing to take them.

Edit: belatedly realized that the two posts above are ~6 months old. Hehe. :)

No, actually...I was talking about Regent's Fate.

Aha! I don't know much about it, myself. Perhaps the lead wants to comment (if s/he saw this thread).
