Hey, you!
Yes, you.
Come over here.
I want a backstory for your character. But, more than that, I want you to make a backstory for your character that includes the character before.
So... I'll start by writing a backstory for a character, the next person writes a backstory for their character, and in their backstory they include my character. The next person does it for that persons character, and so on. Indicate which character you're including in your backstory, in case two people reply to the same post.
And, keep 'em short. We want other players to be able to read through your backstory in a reasonable amount of time :)
I'll either randomly choose, or pick my favourite bio's, and give those players invites to alpha. Or, if I really like the ideas, we might even get the player to play that specific character (including staff support if needed).
If you're a premium player or already have an invite, then instead you'll be given some trait alterations to make your character a bit more unique.
Have fun!

Annushka
- A young and naive bat girl, she grew up in a small province, where her family was one of the richer landowners. Being well taught, and having a deft hand at scribing, she left home to seek adventure in the big city. Always dreaming of magic, Annushka has had no luck so far apprenticing herself to a sorcerer yet, and is in a poor financial situation. She is currently making enough denarii to live on by using her neat handwriting to transcribe and copy manuscripts. She's sure that if she sticks to her plan opportunity will come her way, and she'll be caught up in a big adventure.

Aegnor
~ Several years past pup' hood, he is a ruggedly handsome wolf, or would be if he did not have that harden look in his eyes. A few years before, he left his Phelan parents eager to join his cousins in the big city as he had always dreamed. Since he left all he has known is hunger and doing anything to make a fast denarii, yet he too proud to return to his village. He walks along surveying the docks searching for his next job but mostly enjoying the salty air in his nostrils and the cool breeze ruffling his grayish fur. Suddenly he feels a solid yet gentle bump into his chest. He lowers his golden eyes to the dreamy eyes of a young female bat, later introduced to him as Annushka. Unthinkingly he curls his lips into a rogueish smile thinking inwardly he has found his next meal ticket.
(sorry a bit longer than you probably wanted but I got on a kick and couldnt stop, I tried to cut it down as much as possible)

It's a perfectly good length :)
(I just didn't want three page histories)
Hope to be seeing Aegnor in the game :)

Coralin
A sleek otter, Coralin always dreamed of adventuring beyond her home island, where everyone seemed content to bask in the sun and play in the water. Bored with this, she decided to see what's beyond the vast body of water, and found herself alone in a city. Never had she seen so many buildings! And the citizens were so strange..oh look! That one sorta looked like an otter..."Hiya! I'm Coralin." But even as she said this, she noticed the hungry look in Aegnor's eyes, a creature she'd soon learn is a wolf, not an otter, and ran for her life. Maybe this city thing was a bad idea...

Xavien, the sly fox you sometimes catch eyeing your pockets, had a rough background. He was abandoned in the woods when he was very young because he didn't play well with the others. With a vicious attitude, he earned his living the hard way. Nobody's quite sure what he's capable of, but they certainly say he's darned good at avoiding the public's eye. I'd make sure to keep track of my belongings when he's around and mind my tongue, too. I've heard he's a deadly hunter and fighter.

You're meant to mention Coralin somewhere in there as well ;)

Neoascenn , the once aristocratic mink from the north, and now painfully dethroned commoner with a little extra to spend. After a pathetic display in a martial bout, Neo was disowned by his family and left with little more than the clothes on his back and a silk purse. And even that was soon stolen by some slick fox, named Xavien.
Neo has since traveled south to the massive city looking to make his fortune and redeem himself, in the eyes of his family. Having no discernable abilities other than a silver tongue and quick wit, he might first want to learn something useful.
(sorry for the length, just take solace in the fact that I took out a paragraph)

As far as bears went, Tobias' parents where about the best. His father, a strong woodsman, taught Tobias the ways of nature, making him both a strong and wise young bear. His mother taught him the power of kindness and a gentle touch, making Tobias' smile one of his greatest attributes. But in every young cub's life the time, venture forth into the world must come and so it did for Tobias.
With hopes held high and a modest lunch (modest for a bear mind you), Tobias set forth to the big city, leaving behind the woods he knew for so long.
In his first day, his eyes were large with the wonder he saw: Merchants selling goods, peddlers performing magic and stately looking animals with large entourages. No matter how large a bear Tobias had become, it was now obvious how small he truly was. Perhaps it was this look of awe or even the naive air that he gave off, regardless, Tobias smilled when he extended his paw to shake Neoascenn's. He just knew, this was a guy who knew things. This just might be the beginning of an -interesting- friendship.
(Sorry its long, but had a brain push when I read the last entry)

Slade had been in the city for years. Well, not -the- city, of course. Reative to whichever city you were talking about, Slade cloud easily boast that he'd been there, and knew the best place with the largest scraps. Travel was this rat's fondest past time, but after he arrived, water-logged and hungry among the docks of a new city. Rather than listening to the voice that cried "Explore!" in his ears, he kept track of a large bear. Surely he'd drop a few scraps, or maybe even be looking for a 'Guide'.
There is nothing quite so good at defense, as an armadillo guard. Or at least there wasn’t before the growing use of muskets started. Garv lounged about the entrance to the shop that had hired him, and watched the passing crowds as they moved about the road connected to the docks. He shifted the heavy armor plating that was clipped to his natural bony ridges, and flicked his pale tail.
Armadillos aren’t known to be the smartest lot, and Garv wasn’t that far from the norm. He was large for an armadillo and that helped him into the private bodyguard business and his part time work for a noble’s house guard. His family had moved to the dock city shortly after he was born, and he has lived here ever since.
Garv made it his own personal quest to spot and catch as many criminals as he could. He took great pride in his city, but unfortunately he wasn’t very good at criminal catching. His beady black eyes currently watched a suspicious rat follow a member of the crowd, just hoping he would commit a criminal act so the hired muscle could prove his mettle.
(not sure if there are going to be armadillos, but I just sort of writing, I'll be sure to play, one way or the other. -J)

Well, guys, I'm off to bed. Gotta be awake in time for launch tomorrow! (I'm Australian. Gotta love timezones!)
As such, I'm closing this competition in the sense that I might be too busy to check back. If you missed out and really want to post your character, then please do anyway! Or turn it into a thread about the characters you're playing in the game.
I'm going to keep the other writing competition open a while longer.

Erasmus
01-09-2007, 09:20 AM
Erasmus will tell you his story, although he is not sure if a voice as insignificant as his will be heard above the din of this great city.
Erasmus' family are great merchants, with a name so known that simply to speak it will cause other merchants to consider closing their shops for fear of losing all their profits. Erasmus, however, is not the first son, guaranteed to take control of all the wagons and warehouses, the boats and barges, nor is Erasmus the second son, destined to manage a large portion of the family's empire. No, Erasmus is many sons removed from great things, and in truth, Erasmus does not like the family business. There is only buying and selling, selling and buying; never any making. But duty to family has been instilled in Erasmus, and one serves his superior wholly. This is why Erasmus has come to this great city, as an emissary from his father, to seek out new business opportunities; to find new items to buy and sell to new peoples.
But, poor insignificant creature that I am, Erasmus was robbed on the ship and was left with little money, few clothes, and even the family crest, which he would wear around his neck was stolen from him. Thus Erasmus comes to this town nameless; choosing to call himself the Smallfry, a name which my brothers would call me. I have met many new friends and even taken a job as an apprentice wood carver in hopes of moving into a room that does not stink of stale beer and a finding mattress free from louse. I have seen the one known as Garv pass me on the streets many times, but surely his eyes do not notice the insignificant ones. I am hoping, in time, with much work, Erasmus will earn back his family name and become far more than the speck of dust on the knee of the fly that pesters beggar, merchant, and king alike.

Kira the she-bear grew up on the docks of a small river town. Her father was a sailor and a fisherman, and her mother worked behind the town's only bar, watering the sailors as the returned home with their catches. With both parents working almost all the time, Kira was left to her own devices, and fell in with a young group of pickpockets. Of course, the town was so small that everyone who they attempted to pickpocket knew the children, and humoured them, so Kira grew up with a exagerrated idea of her thieving capabilities.
Six years ago her father left on a voyage, a sailor on the vessel carrying the local nobility to Docktown. When the ship returned, her father was not on it, and those sailors that knew him claimed he had deserted, thanks to a disagreement with one of their noble passengers. Kira kept her ears open on the docks, asking passing sailors about her fathers whereabouts, and taking her fathers place on the fishing boats to keep her and her mother fed. However it was not enough, and Kira's mother became ill.
Falling back onto a single wage, Kira could not afford to get a doctor to look at her mother, and when her mother took a turn for the worse, she gave up her spot on the trawler to look after her quickly fading mum. Four years after her father disappeared, her mother died, and Kira began looking for passage to Docktown to look for her father, Kielra.
She got passage on a passing ship, too depressed to talk to Erasmus, who was onboard, and too embarrassed to tell him that she had watched him getting robbed, had been too frightened to help. She skulked off the boat after he had left, and put on a brave face, for as he had shown her, things could always get worse.

Phaedre McDermott grew up in the rough streets and back alleys of Triskellion. She was orphaned at the tender age of five, a mere pup. A raccoon name Jinx took the young pup underfoot and taught her his trade, thievery. Jinx was with a group existing before the current thieves guild. They were Phaedre's family and she grew to care for each and every one of them. At the age of fifteen Phae's 'family' was hired by a Noble House, who's name will remain unwritten, to steal certain documents from the Avordupois household. Phae's group was successful. Sadly, the Noble House that had hired them thought they were better off dead than to risk any of them talking. So Phae's 'family' was slaughtered by the house's soldiers. Phae barely escaped with her life and fled from Triskellion.
She traveled Clabria for fourteen years working for a traveling merchant as a bodyguard. The merchant retired then and left Phae with enough money to settle down someplace. Figuring she was grown enough and her appearance had changed enough over fourteen years, Phae returned to Triskellion, age twenty-nine. There she met a bear named Lucius and a wolf named Moofius and became one of the first members of the Black Company. While there she met and fell in love with a Bisclavret knight name Remus. She served as the Black's Quartermistress for half a year and then took on an assassination job that led her out of Triskellion. She got a gut instinct about her mark and got to know him instead of killing him. She found that he was a good gentle person and, in a rare moment of moral, she decided to let him live. Sadly, the same House that had betrayed her in the past did so again. They killed the mark and then framed Phae. Phae was arrested, tried, and thrown into prison for five years.
After her release from prison Phae returned to Triskellion and rejoined her brothers in the Black. The sad news of Remus' death reached her and, typical of herself, moved on. She has mated with a dingo, Tremain, who is squire to the Bisclavret knight Lyam. She pickpocketed some guy named Erasmus and, more then likely, the poor sap never knew. Phae still holds a grudge against the Noble House that has plagued her existence and overall dislikes most other nobles. With the exception of Lord Sir Burcet.
Lucius born long time ago, not even knowing how long. But fur starting to turn grey. Was soldier for long time, strongest! But not best yet. Not good at all. Lucius on duty up in guard tower at night and was sleepy, just ate bunch of lizard meat and snuck ale into tower. Lucius fell 'sleep and did not see attack coming. Most of town live, but not bears that live close to gate, like Lucius wife and cub.
Was sad. Still sad. But Lucius learn to be better soldier. 'specially with Black. Him and Moofius start it, Phaedre come day later. Nothing live when Lucius and Moofius attack, with Phaedre sneaking 'round like crazy pretty wolf lady with daggers. With Black, Lucius able to keep hair on head red. From when he rip off head of enemy and let blood pour down. Sometimes fun to squeeze head too, eyeballs go flying then.
Things crazy few years ago. Black get split up, Phaedre gone, Lucius not knowing where. Lucius thinking Moofius dead. But better now. Back in Docktown, back in Black. Phaedre and Moofius with Lucius. Things different at same time, Lucius looking 'round. Time making plan for life. It 'bout time for Lucius to prove he strongest.
