Well the key reason I'm posting here.. every time I tried to do a bug report in game I'd freeze up.

So here is the rest.

-BUG: Trying to enter the refectory (directly south) on more then one occasion caused me to lock up (freeze) where the text imput box vanishes and nothing responds.

-BUG? : Apparently my avatar has no face, of eyes or at least I'm unable to "close my eyes" or "touch my face"

-IDEA: I may have missed the proper syntax but I couldn't look "under" the bed or "beneath" it, though I could look beneath the table in the start room.

-IDEA: It does feel rather constricting to not be able to do "free emotes" where the user defines his or her actions which is quite common in MUDS, MUSHES etc.
an example would be:

emote shifts uncomforatably on the bench

(which we hope would look like)
Bob shifts uncomforatably on the bench

IDEA:verbs: shudder

IDEA: colour the accept/deny commands when they appear on the users screen so that it is more obvious and they stand out, I missed many requests for others to approach or give me something.

In my start room, in examining the bed, I could examine it, and the blanket. But when I tried to remove the blanket, it said there isn't a blanket here.

I removed my linen wrappings. Then said examine me. It said You examine (name). Name begins to examine you. Name is....He is carrying your bunch of linen wrappings.
WHo is he? It isn't consistent with its use of second and third person pronouns when speaking of the self.

Alchemist Hall - torches outside double doors. try to examine them, and it says they aren't there.

You can't knock on doors?

Stables - You begin to enter the the ladder going up.

Well, I had fun wandering about, and exploring the place. The staff characters did a good job circulating and engaging people in conversation.

Is there a place I can download the commands? For some reason, my first and second and third choices are never there, so I glance again. I wanted to look sharply at people, squirm nervously as the examined me, stand straight, puff out my chest, etc. After a couple of tries, I would then nod or glance. It would be less frustrating if I could just print out a list.

The mystery of the place intrigues me. I will keep coming back until I get most of it, unless it ends up like the X-files, where no information is ever given out. That isn't a mystery, it is just a brick wall. But how will new players be introduced if the mystery is out? Beats me.

There are too many rats and cats. Were they breeding? They could use the ladders like nobody's business too, though they "entered" them somehow! http://www.skotos.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

DAY TWO:

I can't go to sleep without sending my heartfelt thanks to my fellow players and the staff who play the NPCs of the castle. I have undoubtedly had some of the best roleplaying moments in the past 24 hours that I've had in many, many years. Something I was very hopeful about, but unsure was possible to this degree in a multi-user setting online.

There is a wonderful amount of tension rising amongst players, players and NPC, NPC and NPC and their surrounding.

I never would have expected such a deep level of interaction with either player or NPC alike, I am greatly impressed, and undoubtedly hooked.

My most humble thanks!!

You bow to eight people, nine breads, yourself, your boots, your pair of pants, and your cloak.

Which chair, the left chair or the right chair? You can't take that chair. If I can't take the chair, it shouldn't first ask me which chair I want to take.

Whose pair of hands would you like to clap?

and then...

You clap your pair of hands.

Cats and rats are fine, but this is a castle! Where are the dogs, the wolfhounds and the beagles cracking bones and gnawing rinds by the hearth? Or is that part of the mystery?

That is a bug. It should say 'You can only remove clothes.' for now. Alas, the idea of removing bedding from the bed is far into the future.

Yeah, another small problem where the actor and observer get a little confused. Thanks for the report; we'll iron these things out over the course of the beta. Oh, and you should not get both descriptions of course.

Soon, my preciousss... You've successfully pegged a good 25% of Engineering's TODO list for the short term. :-)

Hmm, that is a subtle problem then you might imagine -- we'll have to think more about how to solve it.

The basic way the clothing system works is that items have a list of multiple 'body-parts' that they can 'cover'.

When you wear a piece of clothing over another piece of clothing, if it partially covers the previous one, you'll have to take it off before you can take off the one underneath it.

If you wear a piece of clothing that completely covers every body-part of a previously worn peice of clothing, it will also be obscured from view with look and examine.

The problem with the cloak and the boots is that the cloak is quite long, and covers down to the calves. The boots in turn are larger then sandals or socks, and cover up to the calves. The bug/problem is that when you put the boots on last, the system in effect thought that you tucked the portion of the cloak that covers the calves into your boots.

The temporary solution for you is to put your clothes on in layers, inner items first.

The medium term solution might be to make one or the other not cover the calves (say make the cloak only go down to the knees.)

The longer term answer is that we have hypothesized a system that some some simple topology built into it (i.e. you can't pull your shirt off if you are handcuffed ;-) ) that will address many of these harder problems.

That your shirt was also a problem may be an easier to fix bug -- it may cover a body part that it is not suppost to. Or it could be that your cape was covering it. Let us know which shirt is the problem and we'll take a look at it.

All of the uncapitalized creatures (the seamstresses, the guards, the couriers, the cats, the rats, etc.) are what we call CNPCs. They are quite complicated and are going through a lot of revision right now.

We are primarily concentrating on getting the seamstresses, couriers, etc. that have essential functional roles in the Castle working properly. We thought that we'd have them ready before launch, but we had some last minute SNAFUs. However, as soon as they are all working properly we'll start taking up some of the less important behaviors, like letting you pet a cat and having it purr, kicking a rat and having it run away, etc.

As someone with a longtime MUCK background, I also really missed the 'free emotes' - it's nice to just be able to pose exactly the sentence you want and have it echo back, without worrying is the verb in the vocabulary, etc etc.

Complicating that is the fact that I didn't want to try something complex while in a room with other people and maybe embarrass myself.

But by practicing on the servants, I was able to determine that the system is really fairly smart and Does The Right Thing in most cases, so I'm withdrawing that gripe until further evidence http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif Especially since I didn't expect it to know "quizzically," one of my favorite adverbs, and it did ...

E'en so, a way (maybe not online - too long a listing - but as a help file or some such) of seeing ALL the available verbs and modifiers in the dictionary would be helpful. Lookup isn't good enough, and besides, it doesn't work for verbs, does it?

Tara maintains a web page with starting lists of all the adverbs and verbs. Check the links off of the Marrach main page for it.

Also, for adverbs try "say [first letter]" and you'll get a list. There may also be work inprogress for a similiar thing for verbs, but those are trickier.
