The story 'A Study in Emerald' in that book is probably one of the top two or three Mythos stories I've read."

"You can find this particular story online at Neil's website, here (http://www.neilgaiman.com/p/Cool_Stuff). It is also in his recent short story anthology, Fragile Things. (Or at least the US version; I know there are some differences between the US and UK versions.) Any chance I get to shill for Neil Gaiman is a chance I'll take."

I recommend Gene Wolfe's upcoming book "An Evil Guest" for all Lovecraft fans. Gaiman mentions it in his blog. Gene Wolfe has written a number of Lovecraftian short stories, PM me or email me or IM me for details.

To which Oliver White replied:
I'm not about to order perfume, but I will point out that this same establishment has a number of fragrances based on the works of my absolute favorite author, Neil Gaiman. Whose own Lovecraftian story, with a really wicked twist at the end, is available online for free, here (http://www.harpercollinsebooks.com/210AD7E8-8118-402A-B769-2C8FEAF3DE68/10/125/en/neilgaiman?WT.mc_id=REFL_AWXX_NGAISTUDY_092807) (in both e-book and audio format).

And Thomas King finished up with:
I was listening to that audiobook with my wife in the car with me. I was yelling at my radio *Holy ****!" My wife however believed that she just had more proof that I'm a loon.

Said book is coming out in 2 weeks or so (in the U.S. at least), on the 16th. Mr. Gaiman reviews it here (http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2007/12/thinking-out-loud-mostly.html). (Gene Wolfe is an incredible writer; although I've only been able to finish 2 of his books, and both of them required that I restart them halfway through.)

Neil Gaiman is such a wonderfully nice man. :) And I do adore his work. I wish I had a copy (audio or print) of his lecture on mythology, but I don't know if there is a place that actually has it copied down. It was brilliant, though.

Also, I would recommend one of Gaiman's short stories for children that was whimsical, yet written in a style that I love as a writing prompt. It's only the answers to questions asked in an interrogation. A very Lovecraftian idea, only woven into a tale for the kiddies. :D

After an hour's search, though, I can't seem to find it. Don't remember the title very well, but it was in Fragile Things, I believe. Or at least I think. I remember hearing that one, too, during the speaking. Ah, well. If someone finds it, let me know, won't you?

Not Mythos by any stretch of the imagination (or maybe it is, I'm only through chapter 1), but Neil's newest book, The Graveyard Book, is out now in the US (UK people have to wait until the end of the month). Best of all, he's doing a reading tour, where he will read each chapter of the book, putting videos of the events online. So you can hear the book in its entirety, read live by the author, here (http://www.mousecircus.com/videotour.aspx). It is horror-y, as it involves murder most foul and a graveyard full of ghosts and a vampire named Silas.

Back on firmer mythos grounds, I think the story Penny is referring to can be found here (http://www.neilgaiman.com/p/Cool_Stuff/Short_Stories/I_Cthulhu). Although this far pre-dates Fragile Things. Fragile Things had an AWESOME short story that I would love to see as a plot-let in our game. To avoid spoiling it, said story involved an old lady who whined that "I need my meat".

Shadows over Baker street is a damn fine read! One of the few Lovecraft meets so and so's that I have truly enjoyed. Even based some CoC games on some of the stories
