Saturday, July 5, 2008, 9:00pm EST:

As the territory of Rock Valley awaits its final recapture and reincorporation into the Republic, the Office of the Steward of the City is pleased to offer to all the Republic's defenders, citizens and residents alike, the unique opportunity to make use of the elite metal smiths of the Colosseum! Be prompt and come bearing a written description of your requests for a place in line to have your metal armor and weapons worked to your specifications.
[One item per person that, based upon participation, may or may not be returned during the duration of the event. This would be the equivalent of an item alteration and custom-made pieces will not be available. Questions may be submitted via @request prior to the event.]

Are you guys actually responding to our questions? I sent in an @request a few days ago after this event was posted to get a price check on my item and haven't gotten a response yet.. I'd like to make sure I can afford it is all. :)

Rupert;

Take a loan. Plenty of people in game, criminal and otherwise, who will give loans of several talents as long as you give your word that it will be repaid shortly. Some require more than your word.

The money shouldn't be the real issue here, not only do I want to know what the cost is so that I can work it into my characters funds, but I also want to know if what I want done is even going to be completely doable at the event.

Why don't you just say what you're going to have done? Lots of people have had customizations that browse the forums, I'm pretty sure they could provide you with a 'yes' or 'no' answer.

The event is for an item 'alteration' - this means only the appearance of the item can be changed. For example, engraving some words on a gladius, insetting a ruby into the handle of a knife, adding a plume to a helmet, or painting a shield. This does not include adding a faceplate to a helmet, fixing a bronze spear with a retalq tip, etc. Basically, all that can be changed is the short-item name ("a bronze gladius") and the LOOK AT description.

Yes I'm very aware of the guidelines under which an item can be altered, and the point in which the alterations requested become a custom item. I haven't posted what I'm going to have done because it's private to my character, my question here is, is this event a full on item alteration event (alter anything you'd like about the item without changing the function or mechanics of it) Or if their were restrictions on what alterations you could have done. i.e: Painting/dying, engravings, sharpenings, insets.

Generally item alteration events will specify if they only include a certain type of alteration. Since it doesn't specify, I am pretty confident that you will be able to change everything you wish to as long as it follows the guidelines.

Changing:

a retalq dagger

to

a massive sharpened clear blue dagger with a curving black handle

You see a massive sharpened clear blue dagger with a curving black handle. It has been engraved on the blade with the word "Death". The blue-bladed dagger appears to be made from retalq. The black handle is incredibly curved and is covered with black leather for a better grip. This blade is incredibly sharp.

Would be alright. Hopefully the GM's in charge this time around will not allow people to go over the 10 words limit they once used as a guideline for short descriptions.
