PROP BUILDER POPUP TOOL
Bria's player followed-up on the status of a cross-game prop building tool, @BUILD, which allows players to propose item ideas, then once the item is approved, provides a template to the player who suggested it so that they can build the item. It will make things a lot easier on both staff and players alike, and cuts down on request-wait time since players would be essentially building requests themselves. Both the idea and the item have to be approved before it gets introduced to the game.
The tool is ready to use for simple props.
STATUS:
As of July 3, 2008 Lecter will follow-up with Azrael on how to get @BUILD to tie into the actual code for this command. Once that's working rest assured he'll post how this tool works.
COMBAT
When will beta test of other combat skills occur?
Combat is on the backburner. We need to implement a better healing system and fix death. Currently death occurs, but one is still able to login with the character; better than losing a character through error, but still not working right.
How do you think combat is working now?
General consensus from those present was that it works okay from what they’ve seen, but want to see more (using weapons, fighting CNPCs) to give a full answer.
Is combat working good enough that we can implement some other combat-related skill such as fencing or boxing?
General consensus was to do the following:
* Add to combat with some weapon support and CNPC enemies. Turn deathless combat on in game as long as additional support for extended RP is enabled such as allowing the fencing club, boxing, wrestling and other activities to occur.
* If a sudden rash of crime-type RP occurs and becomes unmanageable that combat be turned off quickly.
* Fix bruising as that's probably a timer that's set short for testing purposes.
* Explain how defense works. So far it does not look to be related to the combat skill being utilized.
* Keep in mind that we don't have any type of justice monitoring in place yet other than player-self-monitoring. Willow will review the justice design and see how difficult that will be.
As of July 3, 2008 Lecter has done some work on creating weapons and implementing computer-run opponents to spar with or fight against. Again, most updates will be posted as separate thread updates due to the complexity of the updates and the information we'd have to impart about them.
NEW PLAYER HELP
Is there anywhere I can find info on all the @ commands and storypoint stuff?
NOTE: Look at welcome emails to see about new links. This is still a to-do.
The best place for storypoint stuff is the forums. Move over or rewrite storypoint information for the forums or place in game under @help storypoints.
Hit @. It brings up a whole list. Hit @help topics, brings up more help. This can be done in any game.
WEB SITE: As of July 3, 2008 we're mostly done moving over important information from our old forums back to here (our old old forums). While it looks to be pretty universal that we're all sad to see LC.com go away, having LC formally back in the Skotos fold and having a place that is maintained technically by Skotos will free up staff time to concentrate fully on the game.
@ASSIST: Everyone can @assist additional questions and requests for items.
@HELP: as we build up @help in game that will give me topics to cover that are useful to new players like yourself.
Damien Summers and Arthur Smith volunteered to send topics for @help via @assist and the staff will put them in place. Thanks guys!
OTHER PLAYERS: One can always OOC’ly (via @ooc) or IC’ly ask another character/player for help.
@REMEMBER/@RECALL: The @remember and @recall commands are very useful and I think many people forget about them. You can @remember 'Thomas King is awesome' and when you type @recall it will show anything you have @remembered.
A concern of late is breaking into rp. Even with the @people command, finding 'an office' or somesuch can be really hard for people who don't know the game.
NOTE: Populate a link to the detailed map in game; make sure locale briefs are locale descriptive.
@TUTORIAL: This command now works in game. It is a toggle command turned on for all new characters that will give extra IC and OOC information to help new players orient more quickly and to put extra tips and tricks right there as you move around and look at things. Turning this off will hide that information. We invite all players to @assist with ideas on what information to include where.
@ PICK – NEW COMMAND
Lecter finished implementing the @pick command. So you can pick locks if you have the locksmith career.
CHARACTER PROGRESSION PROJECT
@CAREER and @GRADES: These are two new commands that help characters who are ready to graduate and start their careers.
Apartments?
The new apartment building is open and moving will be an automated process. No storypoints required unless you want to pimp out your new pads.
How would one go about getting a job?
One can get a job by asking in game. There are several RPed jobs available such as a librarian and patrolman. Those jobs require certain responsibilities that you have to perform when you play. You can also get bluebooked jobs, at the cafe and Dante's. Just ask the workers there about it. Once @career is completely functional, you'll be able to ‘apply' for jobs there which basically means, if you meet the requirements for a job, you click the button and you get it.
But what if I wanted to work at the Cafe at night and not bluebook it?
You are more than welcome to stand in there and RP cleaning up after people.
Will there be more NPC jobs?
Yes, we’ve just kept Lecter tied up, erm, too busy to add them.
WHERE IS THE HORROR?
Any progress on Lovecraftian things: eldritch tomes, spells, investigating in the library, sanity, etc?
A magic system exists. It handles both spells and experiments since Lovecraft closely ties science with the fantastic. We have an introductory project ready to create for magic, but need a volunteer to write the descriptions of the items and the spells. June 08's CDM gave an introduction to the science/magic system. We'll continue this in July.
Yig is working on our first set of mythos tomes (like you'd find in the vault). What we wanted to do with them needed additional coding.
Lucid dreaming is ready but not yet implemented as the new level of dreaming skill.
Oliver White helped out by writing a way to automate gaining access to the Orne Library Vault a while ago which we are ready to start implementing.
We are working on building the maps for the north side of Arkham. Doesn’t sound very horrific, but it is.
Review of the design for our new insanity system - something we can use and understand – is finished, and the first building block for that system is complete and working in game.
WHERE ARE MORE BOOKS?
For new tomes, see the thread on tomes in this same forum area. Lecter has implemented a new tool for Librarians that speeds up the creation and testing of these complex objects.
PLAYER ONE-ON-ONES
The general desire to see a staffer available to talk one-on-one with players was expressed. Lead StoryBuilder Dakini is available via appointment for this. Simply contact her via @assist or directly via dakini@lovecraftcountry.com.
HOW DO I GET SIMPLE ITEMS?
Use @assist.
If we have it available we'll get it to you. If it needs to be made we'll ask you to describe the item desired. Some special items requiring more work may be purchaseable with storypoints. We try to keep the cost reasonable so you're not stuck without things. When possible we put the items in game available to everyone.
PICK ONE THING TO IMPROVE OR ADD TO THE GAME
Congruency in plots. Long-term plots that overlap or tie together. Overall arc to tie them together.
Speed to implementation.
Plots, more player cooperation.
A list of faculty so I could refer to my professors in game.
Inter-player cooperation, more IC effort to get everyone involved .. even if it makes sense to keep secrets, it's not much fun for the new kids.
There's only one plant in this room, though the descrip says there are two. And we need a gardening shop in town... little shop of tentacled ferns.
Lipstick doesn’t fade back to normal lip color/state. Fix this.
Computerizing NPCs: We need player help to setup past hosted characters so we can include their history of things past.
Highlight this better: @typo for typos, @bug for bugs, and @idea for general ideas.
Fix CNPC emits so that they don't target 'you'. Too confusing when multiple characters all react to it together.
Highlight @assist more: @assist "message/question".
Follow-up with Ariane Thomas' player on astronomy ideas.
In December's CDM it was suggested that we add more emits like the fireplace emits in the library reading room. Some were added to the alleyways too. If you'd like to submit emits for a particular area or building please do so via @assist. 10 or so would do well, and you can get together with other players and make a longer list.
Lecter needs experiment ideas, if anyone has some, send them his way via @assist. Lecter will post an experiment template in the forum.
PURPOSE: review projects; ask players what you'd like to see.
