I have met all the requirements that were stated to play the game and I still can't load the window that you'd play in.

Pleeeease help me.

I'm really excited to get started on the game. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif

Its hard to help you debug the problem without more details. What goes wrong?

Are you using IE or netscape?

Operating system?

What parts of the window do appear?

Are you behind a firewall?

Did you manage to complete the character creation process (i.e. pick physical attributes and get memories?)

Whis answers to these questions we can help you narrow down what your problems are.

Well first of all, let me thank you for replying to my post so quickly. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif

What goes wrong?

I guess maybe if I knew the answer to that question I wouldn't be in here in the first place. LoL. Anyway ...

Are you using IE or netscape?

I'm using IE 5.x.

Operating system?

Windows 95.

What parts of the window do appear?

All of the graphics load. There are two border windows. The first border window only has one button. 'Grand Theatre.' The second border window has two buttons, 'Getting Started' and 'Mastering Chat' and also includes a compass and the map. Then there's all that copyright mumbo jumbo at the bottom. The central window is blue with the message as follows, 'You need Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer to use this page. If you are using Window and IE, and are seeing this error, then please email ce@skotos.net with your Windows and IE version numbers (right click your "My Computer" icon and select properties) and the following info:'

Are you behind a firewall?

I do not believe so.

Did you manage to complete the character creation process (i.e. pick physical attributes and get memories?)

I completed the entire character creation process. It was fun.

I hope this information helps.

Note: I don't work for Skotos. I'm just a player who's been here forever, and I've been doing some volunteer programming on the netscape/java client. So I may be totally wrong.

I believe there is a bug in the current ActiveX client (Alice) on Windows95. CE will have to confirm this. If you have access to a netscape install, try it instead to see if it works. Or try a different computer (98,NT,2000) if you have access to one. But, I'm guessing that you're being bitten by this bug. They know about it BTW, and were working hard to fix it.

Wow, that really bites the big one. Heehee. Lame joke.

How long before this bug is fixed?

Even as we speak our programming department is hard at work on solving this problem...hopefully soon.

Currently I'm told by programming that Win95 and Netscape work without difficulties. That may be a good temporary solution.

Indeed, the client tends not to work with Windows 95 -- an unhappy state of affairs which we are trying to correct as quickly as we can.

Meanwhile, as Sariel says, an emergency situation is to use Netscape, which means you automatically use the Java client instead of the native-to-Windows one that's giving us the trouble.

Many apologies,
Zell

Yep, even an older version of Netscape on Windoze 95 works just dandy. http://www.skotos.net/ubb/smile.gif

Just a question: How long did you wait with that screen before giving up? I had the exact same problem, and I'm so impatient, I didn't want to wait. So, after a minute or so, I gave up. Then, every time I saw it, I just got out of it real quick. So, try it again, and wait a real long time. Log in before you do anything else. Write emails while you wait. Whatever. It just takes forever to do, is all.
Good luck!

Usually the Alice Client zips right up on my Win 98 machine, but every once in a while I have to wait a minute or two while the blank blue screen sits there, before it loads completely. It's not very often, just every once in a while.

We are still working on the Windows 95 problem with Alice, without much success so far.

A new feature, if Alice fails to load, is a link to the Java client. It will be run instead so that you can still play the game.
