I know I mentioned this in the older forum, but a new take on Cthulhu mythos was released last year in the form of Trail of Cthulhu (http://pelgranepress.com/trail/index.html). There's a supplement coming out for it next month, Shadows over Filmland, which essentially sets the mythos in a 30s film (or that's the premise). It's not out, but there is an excerpt of it available now, found here (http://pelgranepress.com/SeePageXX/files/shadowbook.pdf) (pdf file). Interestingly most of the excerpt is a comparison between HPL's stories and many horror film tropes (vampires, werewolves, haunted houses, etc.) It's actually a fairly good read. I think it might be a good place to start if you wanted to create an horror plot and put an HPL stamp on it. Want to do a story resembling traditional Mummy stories, well here's a list of HPL stories which cover the immortal monster-magus themes of the Mummy.
