View Full Version : Big Problem (and a little 'un)

I was happily logged into the game (001), hit refresh to see if anything new had happened (and to update ship movements), and the map disappeared. If I hover the mouse over it I get a message at the bottom of the browser (IE 5.00.2614) -

exception: java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: 3

I wonder if somebody did a naughty with a star name?

I've tried closing all instances of the browser and logging in again, rebooting and logging in again, etc.

Oh, and my home star doesn't appear in the dispatch list or standing orders list :) I guess I bin taken out, but I can't see it.

That's the biggie, the other one is that sometimes when I first log in, the right hand display of cash, speed and battle doesn't reflect what I've actually got. If I refresh it updates and shows OK.

As I appear to have lost my home star (and I think 4(?) others), and I can't see the map, and the news report has disappeared (including the 72 hr report) can I get my trial period extended? :D

Hehe. Now it says can't write to database when I log in :) Are you guys really that quick on fixing things?

Well, somehow the data file got truncated. I've restored it to less than an hour ago.

Anyone do or see anything particularly weird right after production on game001. Claim a star and set it to a nonalphabetic name? Anything?

I don't think you've lost your homestar, as the "war room" still shows you there. In fact you took the star Ra not too long ago. Must be some other problem.

Shoot on a sidecar! Wow. Mr. Appelcline fixed the problem as soon as it was posted.

That's impressive :)

Of course, it means he has no life, but then he's played Hegemony before :D

Just got lucky and heard about the problem almost as soon as it happened.

I'll be happier if I can figure out *what* happened, but I only have one inkling so far.

Sorry, no, I am not in 001. 003 is my first game. Just looked at the News and clicked on game 001 and saw the info there.

Folks,

Just as a heads up, it looks like "lock" files weren't getting created correctly, which could have let two people hit the data file for game 001 at the same time with substantially subpar results.

I've got the lock files working right, and have also made the program a bit more robust, so that it won't allow you to play if it can't create a lockfile. That'll hopefully fix the problem for the future too.

So, as I promised, it's a beta. Hopefully 30 minutes of lost orders is as annoying of a problem as we'll see.

Now, back to my regularly scheduled weekend;).
