Forums Reversion

The cloud server that hosts the main Skotos web site and the forums experienced a hardware failure on Saturday morning that unfortunately led to severe database corruption. Several attempts to restore it failed.

This led us to our backups, but the timing was a bit unfortunate. Since the failure occurred on a weekend morning, we didn't see it until after a new backup occurred, which contained the corrupted data, and which removed our previous daily backup. This forced us to our weekly backup, which was unfortunately at the end of its time: six days old.

So, the forums are back, but we had a six-day reversion.

This should not have affects on the rest of the site, since the majority of our data is saved in our main-user-database or our games, all on remote machines.

  • Announcing Zealous 0.6

For this new version of Zealous you can use the following browsers, to the best of our knowledge:
    • Firefox: 0.9 works, 1.0PRE recommended.
    • Mozilla: 1.7.1 works, 1.7.3 recommended.
    • Netscape: 7.2 works.

On older or other browsers we cannot make any guarantees, alas. If you were previously using Zealous and find this new version does not work for you, we recommend you install one of the abovementioned browsers. Failing that, the original Zealous is available as Old Zealous.

    Bugfixes:
    • The 'lost enter event' has been fixed, where your input would mysteriously disappear, never to arrive on the server.
    • When more than one colour tag was used on one line this could lead to incorrect interpretations.
    • A bugfix related to overcome certain game-output parsing problems with network buffering.
    • The 'CONFIG WRITE' command should no longer trip over names on the Skotos Seven and ABN servers.
    • Memory leakage removed by changing the way the pulldown menus and the compass links on the right side work.
    • The 'exit links' in the output from the 'exits' command now work.

    Other changes or added features:
    • When the connection is lost (for whatever reason), you are now notified of this and the input textbox is disabled.
    • The behaviour of the <up> and <down> cursor keys has been streamlined.

The ctrl + <Up> and ctrl + <Down> combinations always go back and forth in the input history, as they did before. The <Up> key will move inside the current line, unless it's at the beginning of the line, in which case it will act as ctrl + <Up>. Similarly, the <Down> key will move inside the current line, unless it's at the end of the line, in which case it will act as ctrl + <Down>.

If someone can explain that in fewer words, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    • When going through the command history, start the cursor at the end of the line you just changed to.
    • Making sure that <PageUp> and <PageDown> work to scroll up/down the output frame.
    • Font style and size menus added, created dynamically from what your browser thinks is available. The menus indicate which font style or size you have currently selected and update both the output frame and user input textbox.
    • The focus is returned to the input textbox after clicking the links in the left and right panel, selecting from the pulldown menus, compass directions, or an 'exit link' in the output window.
    • The title of the Zealous window will contain the name of the character (if the client can figure it out) and the name of the game it's logging into.
    • Autologging support.
    • Disconnect messages altered slightly.
    • Menu entries for loading/saving the config and loading/saving macros.
    • Any of shift + enter, ctrl + enter or alt + enter will work to create multiple lines of input that get send at once.
    • The (Grand) Theatre in the left panel and the Skotos, Mastering Chat and Getting Started links in the right panel now open a new tab or window (depending on your configuration) if the original window opening Zealous has been closed.
    • Increased the default height of the input textbox to two lines.
