it's got to be "autumn" by joanna newsom for melle right now.

    autumn

    "among the tall pines,
    along the ley lines
    here, where the loom keens
    there, where the moon leans
there, where i know my violent love lays
down in a row of silent, dove-grey days.
here, in a row of silent, dove-grey days.
wherever i go, i am snowbound
by thoughts of him, whom i would sun
i've loved them all, one by one
    cannot gain ground, cannot outrun"

      Perfect for Sassa:

      Hummingbird, by ID3 and Soundmouse

      Into your garden
      the planet of reason
whilst smiling through green scents of fear

And finding laced with nectar your sweet skin and flesh so
      fruitfully soft
      for you
      for you.

      Nimble your fingers
dancing like elvin of bracken through the strands of thread hair

      Glistening cold
      nourished and golden
      falling to the ground.

Where lies the maiden you made in your mind
twisting and gnarling while you stand in oblivion for you

      Silent and still
      trapped in your mind
so fragile like feathers of broke winged hummingbird too

So don't stop the way you feel
and move closer to what is real
don't feel the way you are
move closer to the light in your eyes

And finding laced with nectar your sweet skin and flesh so
      fruitfully soft
      for you
      for you.

      Nimble your fingers
dancing like elvin of bracken through the strands of thread hair

      Glistening cold
      nourished and golden
      falling to the ground.

      Silent and still
      trapped in your mind
so fragile like feathers of broke winged hummingbird too

So don't stop the way you feel
and move closer to what is real
don't feel the way you are
move closer to the light in your eyes

Don't stop the way you feel
and move closer to what is real
don't feel the way you are
move closer to the light in your eyes

Tell Your Heart to Beat Again by Danny Gokey

        You're shattered
        Like you've never been before
        The life you knew
In a thousand pieces on the floor
And words fall short in times like these
When this world drives you to your knees
You think you're never gonna get back
To the you that used to be

Tell your heart to beat again
Close your eyes and breathe it in
        Let the shadows fall away
Step into the light of grace
        Yesterday's a closing door
        You don't live there anymore
Say goodbye to where you've been
And tell your heart to beat again

You need power only when you want to do something harmful, otherwise love is enough to get everything done. ~~Charlie Chaplin~~
No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow. ~~Proverb~~

I have two, and they're both theme songs!

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

          and

          Tales From the Crypt
Dame Galatea summarizes to Brook, "Sinistro is... kind of like Uwaine, physically, but less magic and more scalpel?"

Brook admits to Dame Galatea hesitantly, "I am not sure if that is better or worse."

Dame Galatea supposes to Brook, "That depends on whether you enjoy your terror with an aftertaste of lightning or flaying."

So much music comes to mind when I think of Meryl, to be honest... I'll limit it to just a couple that I listen to when playing her... (Also, I find she is so easily defined by blues and southern gothic, which kind of makes me giggle

            Dream me, oh dreamer
            Down to the floor
Open my hands and let them
            Weave onto yours

            Feel me, completer
            Down to my core
Open my heart and let it
            Bleed onto yours

            Feeding on fever
            Down all fours
            Show you what all that
            Howl is for
Let us go! Though we know it’s a hopeless endeavor.
The ties that bind, they are barbed and spined, and hold us close forever.

the national - sea of love

"oh you say you love me, Jo
how am I supposed to know?
when you go under the waves
what am I supposed to say?"

i know i'm spamming this thread, and worse i can't choose just one of these songs to post now, but oh well.

                  sawdust and diamonds

"though my wrists and my waist seem so easy to break,
still my dear, i'd have walked you to the very edge of the water
and they will recognise all of the lines of your face
in the face of the daughter
of the daughter, of my daughter
and darling, we will be fine
but what was yours and mine
                  appears to me a sandcastle
                  that the gibbering wave takes
and if it's all just the same, will you say my name, say my name
in the morning, so that i know when
                  the wave breaks?

from the top of the flight
                  of the wide, white stairs
through the rest of my life
do you wait for me there?"

                  cosmia

                  "why've you gone away?
                  gone away again
i'll sleep through the rest of my days
                  if you've gone away again
i'll sleep through the rest of my days"

"can you hear me, will you listen?
don't come near me! don't go missing, and
in the lissome light of evening
                  help me, cosmia, i'm grieving!"

"water were your limbs and the fire was your hair
and then the moonlight caught your eye and you rose through the air
well if you've seen true light then this is my prayer
                  will you call me
                  when you get there?

and i miss your precious heart."

I have a bunch of playlists of atmospheric music I use for different areas of the castle, or different moods. IE: A regal one for the IB, a tavern themed one for the Dining Hall, a creepy one for the Abyss. I can probably dig 'em out if anyone ever wants them.
"Glory follows virtue as if it were its shadow."

"So far as he is able, a prince should stick to the path of good but, if the necessity arises, he should know how to follow evil."
                    - Niccolo Machiavelli

"Men should be either treated generously or destroyed, because they take revenge for slight injuries - but for severe ones they cannot."

@lucus: that sounds interesting! a while ago i made some ambient soundtracks for the OB, i posted them in a different thread somewhere.

i didn't really know this band until i heard this song on the radio the other day, it got stuck in my head so i looked up the lyrics and immediately linked them to melle and my writing of him.

                      future islands - cave

                      "i don't believe anymore
                      i won't grieve anymore
because all i hold is all i own.

is this a desperate wish for dying?
or a wish that dying cease?
the fear that keeps me going, and going, and going
is the same fear that brings me to my knees"

For the moment, a lot of this resonates with me for Meryl

Florence + The Machine - Shake it out

                          Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play

And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues strong
It's always darkest before the dawn

And I've been a fool and I've been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I'm always dragging that horse around
                          ....

                          And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope
It's a shot in the dark and right at my throat
'Cause looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Looking for heaven, for the devil in me
Well what the hell I'm gonna let it happen to me
Let us go! Though we know it’s a hopeless endeavor.
The ties that bind, they are barbed and spined, and hold us close forever.

For me, I almost always play the soundtrack from Les Choristes. It just has such a wintry feel to it!
