  • A Game of Chess and Mayhem

Twenty-Fourth Day of the Second Moon,
    Seventeenth Year of Recent Awakenings

In accordance to the will of Her Majesty, and in upholding the duties charged to me as Junior Chronicler, I hereby submit an account of
A Game of Chess and Mayhem.

On the 13th day of the 2nd moon, sers Kobe and Siward collaborated to host a Chess Tournament. This event was different from the past ones because this one included a prize of a customized chess board. The winner would be able to design their very own chess board with any material their heart desired. However, despite the fact that the treasury does not give limits it was suggested not to utilize any material above courtier rank.

Attendees included, Mistresses Meryl and Merrynn, seras Klara, Trysha, Eloren and Irene, ser Ignoia, the hosts and this Chronicler. The game was played in two separate rooms to quicken the tournament. Some worked in the Refectory with ser Siward and the others in the sunset room with ser Kobe.

The first match was between Mistress Meryl and sera Eloren; the two women were very dedicated in their play. It was clear by their strategic moves that each dearly wished to win the prize, but in the end the Mistress was victorious.

The next matches were as followed:

    Sera Irene vs. This Chronicler:
Sera Irene swiftly took the win.
Sera Klara vs. sera Trysha: Sera Klara commenced things off slowly but ended up moving into the next round.
Ser Ignoia vs. Mistress Merrynn: Mistress Merrynn took the lead and looked to be winning until ser Ignoia captured her Queen.
Mistress Meryl vs. sera Irene: The women had an even match that could have gone either way, but Mistress Meryl took the win and was moved into the finals.

The final three contestants were Mistress Meryl, sera Klara and ser Ignoia. Just afore they could get to the finals, those present were interrupted by a fairy that goes by the name of Prelinah who has been a denizen for over ten years now. The miniscule, alabaster-skinned fairy wore her blue hair in a tumble of elegant spirals and curls that sparkled with jeweled beads. A pair of transparent wings elongated from her back and she was thoroughly surrounded by a vibrant aura that even the mundanes could see.

Prelinah did not take the time to greet anyone despite the many greetings given to her. Instead, she zoomed around the room a few times before stopping so she could shoot ser Siward with a bolt of red magic that exploded into tiny hearts. She then did the same to seras Eloren and Klara.

The bolt sent each of them flying to the floor, leaving sera Klara down. As sera Klara lay on the floor dazed, ser Siward declared his love her while sera Eloren did the same to this Chronicler. It was clear that Prelinah had shot the three people with some form of love spell. When this Chronicler asked the fairy how long the spell would last, she gave a mischievous smile and shrugged before disappearing into nothing.

Afore anyone could attempt to further understand the situation, sers Dolph, Kobe, Ignoia and Chrestian raced into the refectory all declaring their love for sera Klara. Ser Chrestian, being her authentic courter, hoisted her from where she fell and gave her a chaste kiss. That kiss woke her from the daze and made the other men furious. The sera was so overwhelmed as she attempted to assure the men they did not truly love her but was unable to persuade them.

Moments later, Mistresses Meryl and Merrynn came in. Mistress Merrynn, who had been magically in love with Mistress Meryl, complimented her over-and-over while following her every move. Mistress Meryl was furious that her love, ser Ignoia had been cursed into telling another sera that he loved her. While all of the arguing between the sers and the Mistress went on, ser Chrestian successfully got sera Klara out of the refectory. That sent the men into a panic as they all called after her and some even chased.

This Chronicler, who had sera Eloren singing sonnets to her, thought of an idea. ‘True love conquers all’ This Chronicler told sera Eloren that if she was really in love, she'd do this chronicler a favor and kiss ser Siward. Sera Eloren accepted and expressed she would do anything for this Chronicler then kissed the ser, immediately the spell was broken and the two were returned to their own minds and feelings.

Mistress Meryl however, was not going to force ser Ignoia to kiss her; instead she utilized her magic as a sorceress to counter the original spell placed by Prelinah. The magic worked and ser Ignoia too was returned to his mind and feelings. However, she did not have time to relish in the moment and went to the refectory to avail Mistress Merrynn and sers Kobe and Dolph.

When everyone was to their normal self the air was full of awkwardness as they all quietly departed with apologetic words and smiles. It was mutually decided that the tournament would be put on pause until another day.

This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as I humbly ask that the readers indicate to me through their discretion any falsehoods I may have mistakenly communicated. It is by means of the conservation of the Past that we continue to serve Her Majesty and give substance to those that follow.

In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, the Office of the Chronicler, and the Denizenry of our Gracious Queen's Realm,

    Yazmin Reymess
    Junior Chronicler
