  • A Tour of the New Inner Bailey Teaching Hospital

    Penned on the 6th Day, 2nd Moon Moon, 18th YRA

    To the Denizenry of Her Majesty's Castle Marrach;

    In accordance to the will of the Lord Chamberlain, and in upholding the duties charged to me as Court Chronicler, I hereby submit the chronicle of A Tour of the New Inner Bailey Teaching Hospital.

    On the evening of the 6th day of the 2nd moon of the 18th year of these Recent Awakenings, Doctor Dolph led a small tour of the new Inner Bailey hospital.

    The new hospital, found at the base of the Collegium Tower, had been completed on Sun's day, the very previous night, but plans to build it had been "in the working for years," according to Doctor Dolph. The plans, originally submitted by Doctor Diana half a year prior, went through a number of tweaks and modifications before finding approval with His Highness.

    The hospital's main hallway granted access to what Doctor Dolph called "the three most important rooms": the Examination room, where staff could see if patients needed emergency care, the Recovery room, where patients could recover in peace without the "hustle and bustle" of unwated visitors, and the Surgical Theatre, where most of the teaching of the Healers would take place, as well as teaching surgeries, autopsies and dissections.

    The tour group entered the Theatre, through the southern wall, and beheld a room designed expressly for the tutelage of Healers; benches lined one corner, able to accommodate a large number of students, while a surgery table would allow a teacher to easily provide visual displays. A raised dais stood in one corner, reserved for the sponsor of the Healers, His Highness.

    Through the doors in the northern part of the hallway, the group entered the Examination room. Unlike its Outer Bailey counterpart, this room was brightly-lit from a number of chandeliers. "It needs to be," said the Doctor when asked why it was so bright. "Emergency care will be done here, and we need to be able to see everything we're doing at a moment's notice."

    Finally, the group made its way to the Recovery room. Spacious and elegant, the room was designed to be relaxing and isolated to allow patients to recover in peace, sporting a fireplace in one corner and canopy beds with velour privacy curtains. Lieutenant Natasha volunteered to test one of the beds, deeming it to be "nice".

    When asked what the Doctor expected the future of this hospital to be, he informed the group that its primary focus would be that of instruction and teaching. He went on to say, "These multitudes of rooms allow us to hold instruction even in the event of crises. With spacious locations for emergencies, spaces for recovery, and a large hall for longer singular procedures, we will be equipped to handle everything, without being confined to a small corner in the opposite end of the Outer."

    Another important note was that this hospital did not lessen the significance of the Outer Bailey infirmary; it was simply a safe, comfortable place to learn, a place where "the pursuit of knowledge in this field" would always be able to move forward.

    This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as I humbly ask that the readers indicate to me through their discretion any falsehood I may have mistakenly communicated. It is through the preservation of the Past that we continue to serve Her Majesty and give strength to those that will follow in our wake.

    In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, the Lord Chamberlain, the Chronicler's Office, and the Denizenry of our Gracious Queen's Realm;
