ZEALOTRY Users: Critical Notice on Continued Use

Edit: Our new HTML5 client (Orchil) is now open for beta testing in The Eternal City and Grendel's Revenge. Feel free to try give it a whirl at

Edit: We have made great strides toward a new HTML5 client, which should offer a replacement to Zealotry. We're hoping to release that in the very near future, but in the meantime, using Pale Moon remains the best method for ensuring there is zero interruption to your game playing during the transition.

As of November 14, Mozilla will be auto-updating all copies of Mozilla Firefox to Mozilla 57, a new edition of their browser that will disable all legacy add-ons. This will probably include the majority of the plug-ins that you use on Mozilla, including the Skotos Zealotry plug-in.

This is a big problem for us because Zealotry is the most stable of our clients at this time, and the one that we believe is in the widest use. There's unfortunately no easy way to update it, because we'd have to rewrite it from practically scratch, using their new programming system.

There are tricks that you could use to to prevent Mozilla updates, but we don't particularly suggest them, as you want to have a clean, secure browser. Fortunately, there are two alternative browsers that will support Zealotry. Each of them branched off of an earlier version of Mozilla Firefox, and each of them continues to be updated for important security issues.

Pale Moon Browser

The Pale Moon browser is our suggested replacement. It is a totally separate browser that branched off of Firefox some years ago. It will continue to support the classic plug-ins.

To install it:
  • Install Pale Moon (Windows & UNIX only)
  • Install the Zealotry XPI on Pale Moon
  • Restart the Pale Moon Browser
  • Play on Pale Moon

The official version of Pale Moon only supports Windows and UNIX, but you can also get a slightly less official version of Pale Moon for the Mac. We've tested it out and it looks like it's clean and works correctly, but use your own level of caution in working with the Mac variant.

If You Have Errors

Some users are experiencing "Content Encoding Errors" when using Pale Moon and Zealotry. As best we can tell, this is due to an incompatibility between Windows 8.1, Pale Moon, and Plugins. If you have this problem (or any other), we suggest instead using Mozilla's extended-release version of Firefox, which branched at Firefox 52. It's expected to remain supported until at least June 28, 2018, by which time Mozilla is planning to jump their ESR to a post-plugin phase. This is therefore a short-term solution, but we expect to have full release of our New HTML5 client well before that.

To install it:
The Big Picture

Our larger-scale goal is to introduce a new client that will be usable on any browser and make our games generally more accessible. We've had a HTML5 client in process since last year, but are currently hitting roadblocks that make a deployment before November 14 problematic. We've also just started a second project, which would be more specifically focused as a Zealotry replacement, without worries about new bells or new whistles. Both of these possibilities are being done out-of-house, by Skotos players, but they're receiving our highest level of attention for whatever support they need, as this is all our top priority.

So, consider this a short-term fix, but in the meantime if you use Zealotry, please download one of the alternative browsers and test them out ASAP.

  • The Search For An Equerry

Twenty-Eighth Day of the Sixth Moon,
    Eighteenth Year of Recent Awakenings

In accordance with the will of Her Majesty, and in upholding the duties charged to me as a Senior Chronicler, I hereby submit an account of
    The Search For An Equerry.

On the eve of the 14th day of the 6th moon, Royal Page, sera Elora was seen hastily traveling through the Outer Bailey, going from one room to the next, dutifully announcing that His Lordship Mirshan wished the presence of all waking denizens to be in the Outer Bailey Courtyard.

Upon entrance, Lord Mirshan, Doctor Dolph, and Mistress Wilena stood on the eastern stairs nearest to the Inner Bailey as they awaited the Outer residents to assemble. Once a moderate crowd gathered, Lord Mirshan began to speak. He first expressed his pleasure in seeing a large number of denizens waking within the Outer. After, he questioned if any believed themselves to be swordsmen and explained that a chosen champion was with him, brought specifically to test all who positively responded to the prior question. That champion was Mistress Wilena. Lord Mirshan then continued by stating that any man or woman can carry a blade and claim to face any foe, yet a true battle, one of grit, dirt, and blood is rarely engaged unless means beyond a person encourages them to engage in such.

Finally, he inquired as to who felt themselves worthy of the chance to become a Knight. A silence fell upon the Outer Bailey Courtyard for mere moments before ser Trisan broke it. He was the first to respond positively but pointed out that he felt worthy of the chance, not worthy of knighthood. The first to respond negatively was sera Theresa, who had only reawakened from a slumber that week. Others to reply positively included Doctor Dolph, seras Elora and Vasilisa, and sers Vaden and Rhomulus. It was then announced that any who could best Mistress Wilena in a single bout with live blades, would become the Equerry to Lord Mirshan

Mistress Wilena took her place in the center of the courtyard as Doctor Dolph prepared his chirurgy kit and his healing Aides. Ser Vaden was the first to accept the challenge as he stepped to the center. Using his Elder Longsword, he courageously engaged the Mistress in a battle that went on for some time. Both appeared to have the upper hand at one point until her blade swiftly made its way through his guard and into his chest. Mistress Wilena withdrew her sword and ser Vaden stumbled backward. Doctor Dolph quickly went to his side and attempted to save his life, but he was unable to. After the proper medical procedures and notes had been handled, the body was given to sera Lith. The search continued after with the next battle taking place with sera Elora. It was not long before sera Elora's shoulder was scraped by Mistress Wilena's blade. Two more battles took place after which left ser Trisan's left arm slightly wounded and ser Rhomulus's hip with a serious puncture. Doctor Dolph and seras Vasilisa and Xandie tended to each patient, one right after the other.

Pleased with the confidence shown by the denizens, yet still without an Equerry, His Lordship Mirshan convinced sera Theresa to try her hand at Mistress Wilena. At this time, Lord Vestio and Lord Mirshan's bodyservant, ser Ibar had joined the audience. Eventually, sera Theresa made her way to the center after coming to an agreement with His Lordship, that should she win, she'd do her best to remain active. The inspection of the blades once again took place, the salutes were given, and the blades began to swing. As one of the longest bouts of the night, all were eagerly observing to two women as they fiercely fought to gain the win. However, in the end, Mistress Wilena was the one to receive punctured from the now Mistress Theresa. A surprised looked appeared on the faces of some, but both women were applauded for their bravery and prowess.

Lord Mirshan declared sera Theresa his Equerry as soon as the fight concluded and the Mistress was seen to by Doctor Dolph. Following, he announced that ser Ibar was to be promoted to Valet and filling the role as the new bodyservant was to be ser Trisan. The three members left the Courtyard with their Liege, but not before His Lordship thanked everyone for joining his search for an Equerry.

This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as I humbly ask that the readers indicate to me through their discretion any falsehoods I may have mistakenly communicated. It is by means of the conservation of the Past that we continue to serve Her Majesty and give substance to those that follow.

In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, the Office of the Chronicler, and the Denizenry of our Gracious Queen's Realm,
