  • Chronicle of Happenings (18.10.01-18.10.07)

    For the period starting the first day of the Tenth Moon, and ending the seventh day of the Tenth Moon, Eighteenth Year of the Recent Awakenings;

In accordance to the will of the Lord Chamberlain, and in upholding the duties charged to the Office of the Chronicler, we hereby submit an accounting of this week's happenings.

    HAPPENINGS OF THE INNER BAILEY

Break your nightly fast with company on the Bridge
Evenings have traditionally been a time of mingling, but for the early birds of the Keep, this was always inconvenient. To address this and better involve those morning folk during the past moons, Households have taken to hosting the always-popular breakfast bells that usually consist of some food and drinks from the Inner Bailey and conversation. However, sera Natasha was the first to start this trend.

Sera Natasha says she started holding breakfast bells on behalf of Lady Sinvy as a way to stimulate activity in the morning bells. They started off as small socials and has since then grown into expected morning rituals in which other Houses have now taken part in. "I am pleased so many want to hold them now and be active," sera Natasha said. "They are very well attended and quite enjoyed."

The breakfasts have so far been hosted by ladies Amoret and Sinvy, and lords Launfal and Mirshan.

All the time is tea time with Lady Amoret's Household
In addition to sponsoring breakfasts on the bridge, Lady Amoret's household has, at Lady Amoret's request, hosted activities throughout the week to engage Inner Bailey residents. From skating on the iced-over pond in the Inner Garden to tea time in the library or out in a garden picnic, these activities draw in regularly waking members of the Court and those who are much more rare.

    Royal Library bustling with events
The Royal Library is hosting many events in the coming weeks, beyond that of its regular tea times. Those events include a chess tournament, regular book club meetings, a romance story contest, and a Book Festival. Work also continues on the Royal Library's True Tales section, which is working to record the lives of those of the Winter Court.
    HAPPENINGS OF THE OUTER BAILEY

    Recent Reawakening of Denizens
Castle Marrach has seen its fair share of denizens who suddenly sleep only to wake years later with confusion and no recollection of when they last woke. However, in this eighteenth year, we have a record-breaking of eleven denizens who woke from sleep all in the same week. Together, the members of the castle are working to assist their fellow denizens to become up to date with all that has changed during their lengthy rest. Some of those who have returned include Dame Hannah, Sir Darvius, seras Isadora, Jerisa, Roisine, and Mirandda, and sers Nexian, Mitsuko, Osric, Brohm, Diantos and Gareth. While not a definitive list, it is a positive start after a long period of quietude.

Dust Bunny Mixer a modest affair
With many guests reawakening after long slumber, the Office of the Chronicler hosted the first of its moonly Dust Bunny Mixers on Saturn's Day, the seventh day of the Tenth Moon. The social gathering's purpose is to help inform the reawakened of changes in their absence, and help them make new friends amongst the recently awakened. About ten people came to the first mixer event.

Outer Bailey Organizations in full recruitment mode
With much renewed activity in the Castle, many denizens may be interested in investing their time in some of the many guilds and groups within the Inner and Outer Baileys. The Healers, Royal Army, Cooks, Embinders, Hairstylists, Clothiers, Awakeners, Courtesy Circle, the Natura Balanus (Faith), Unity of Arts, Office of Royal Orders (Chambers), Jewelers, Society of Duelists and Battle Guild are but some of the organizations looking for new members. Note: The Chroniclers are looking for interested individuals, too!

    Martial Matters
The martial guilds have always been popular with denizens, as many learn to protect themselves and others learn to protect others. No matter the reason, this castle would not be the same without its martial guilds. The Battler Guild and the Society of Duelists are the two Outer Bailey martial guilds, and continue to grow.

In the Battle Guild, sera Lexiana, a longtime member and now a teacher, holds self-defense classes for all denizens who care to come and observe or learn. This class is mainly for denizens who are unable to wield weapons due to one reason or the other. During this practice, she will be teaching a combination of practical hands-on lessons mixed with instruction on how to properly do hand-to-hand combat.

The Society of Duelists is always seeking new denizens to join and as pledges. For more information, contact Mistress Josie or Master Colby.

Ghost Ball draws near; contests now open
Multiple contests are underway in the Outer Bailey in the weeks leading up to the annual Ghost Ball. Contests range from poetry, cosmetics and costumes, to name a few.

"We're really excited about how everyone is eager to take part," Garden Society patron and event hostess Mistress Juliana said.

Shelving boredom, one book at a time
During the past quiet moons in the keep, the Outer Bailey Library acted as a beacon for those who looked for fun activities. It is currently one of the most active guilds in the castle with its cousin, the Royal Library. The Outer Library has had many leaders in its time and this year sera Calamity takes up the role of Head Librarian, replacing Mistress Adeline who now cares for the Royal Library. Together the two work to keep the Outer Bailey entertained and informed through the use of books. The library is open every day save Sun's day, with hours varying to ensure all residents who wish to socialise and find a good book to read have the opportunity.

    Masked Man continues his game
The Man in the Mysterious Mask has been seen every day since his first appearance earlier in the week, and with each visit, he continues his game of Questions. While some believe the Mask's questions benign, others remain suspicious -- and the Mask has taken to using his powers of compulsion to silence those who try to halt his game. Note: The masked man ended his game the day after this period of note-taking. For more on Lahderic and the Mysterious Masks, please see the specific chronicles.
