  • Chronicle of Happenings (18.10.08-18.10.14)

    For the period starting the eighth day of the Tenth Moon, and ending the fourteenth day of the Tenth Moon, Eighteenth Year of the Recent Awakenings;

In accordance to the will of the Lord Chamberlain, and in upholding the duties charged to the Office of the Chronicler, we hereby submit an accounting of this week's happenings.

    HAPPENINGS OF THE INNER BAILEY
    Researching the Great Sleep
A lecture was held this past Mon's day evening in the Inner Bailey Hospital by the Royal Healers, discussing the organization's study of Hibernation. While the lecture was mostly attended by others within the Royal Healers, some non-medical residents came to hear what Doctor Dolph had to say.

The study is focusing on the factors that lead to castle denizens taking to prolonged periods of rest, or hibernation. Some of those factors appear to be a lack of success, a lack of purpose, and, at times, the simple state of being awake too long.

With the many recent re-awakenings, the Doctor said he hopes to be able to collect more data for his research into prolonged rest, and perhaps in time, find a cure for the ailment or a way to shorten the duration.

Discussing the cornerstone of honour: The Virtue of Franchise
On Saturn's afternoon, Dame Galatea and a group of ten others gathered together to discuss the Virtue of Franchise. The Dame first described Franchise as "perhaps the cornerstone of the entire concept of the honour virtues."

"The Honour Virtue of Franchise is that of a greater purpose, of a higher calling, to follow the other Honor Virtues for the betterment not only of your self but of home and kingdom as well," the Knight explained. "It is also faith that those around you are true to the Honor Virtues and a belief that your peers and betters, even those who oppose you, are nothing less than honorable."

Franchise suggests that "some degree of this, honor must exist even in the lowest commoner, in some form, if they are to ever have the potential to raise themselves up higher than they are," Dame Galatea explained. "The result of excessive Franchise is Self-Righteousness, and narrow-mindedness, leaving you too focused on yourself rather than the world."

Discussion continued for two bells, with in-depth debate on the nuances of the Virtue as well as discerning, by definition, whether a person was acting with Franchise or not. According to Dame Galatea, these discussions on the Virtues will continue as a series held by Dame Eeva and herself in the future.

    A living history within grasp
The Royal Library, led by Mistress Adeline, is working hard on its Living History project, contacting members of the Winter Court to create unique biographies detailing the lives of those of the realm's aristocracy. While the project has been ongoing for a few moons now, Mistress Adeline is working hard to update the project to allow a more personalized biography for each participant.

Members of the Winter Court, whether courtier, knight, or noble, are invited to contact members of the Royal Library to help complete this living history project.

    HAPPENINGS OF THE OUTER BAILEY
Outer Bailey project looking for shining stars
Long ago in the Recent Awakenings, before the Royal Collegium was open to the Winter Court and realm, the Outer Bailey was home to multiple scholastic guilds, including the Linguistic Project Assembly. While the LPA has managed to remain active, others have fallen to the wayside, like the Astrology Circle.

While the Office of Royal Orders has decided that the Astrology Circle would not serve a purpose with the Royal Collegium active, several former members and others interested in the stars have decided to loosely organize as a "passion project." For more information, contact ser Mitsuko or sera Meryl.

    Truth and Lies
Denizens gathered in the Outer Bailey's refectory on Woden's evening to enjoy a game of two truths and one line, wherein which a person would present three statements. The participants had to guess which of the three statements were false, and if wrong, had to take a drink of their drink.

Questions ranged from the socially acceptable to rather risque, but by the time the game concluded, everyone was delightfully buzzing from the brandy and beer, and potentially far too aware of the foibles of the participants in the game.

Sorcery lessons for the Bound resume
Bound sorcery students, whether more recently bound or bound in years past, convened in the Amphitheatre to join Mistress Blodwen for matters of the arcane, sharing knowledge and discussing magical happenings of late, this past Woden's evening.

Lessons will continue weekly, according to the Royal Sorceress, though each sorcerer will only advance as far as their dedication allows.

The Flight of Fancy: magical creatures escape book
A number of creatures sketched and detailed within the bestiary of Princess Maeve have escaped, and are running around both the Upper and Under Baileys, according to the fae royal.

On Mon's day evening, a group of more than a dozen of Marrachians and Conclavers gathered in the Outer Bailey dining hall, where they heard from Princess Maeve about the escaped creatures. Her Highness urged those present to help her search for them, but to return them safely and without harm.

As the days have gone by many strange creatures have been seen and interacted with by the denizenry, though so far most remain elusive, and as of yet free. So far, the caticorn has been returned to the Princess.

These creatures include a lunar moth, a cat-unicorn (caticorn), a multi-tailed fox, a fairy fascinated with teeth, a shifty squirrel, a spiderpuppy, and perhaps even worse.

    Chess champion seeks challengers
Mistress Adeline's chess tournament, which offered up a customized chess board as its grand prize, was held this past week, though only one person signed up. This person, sera Meryl, was named champion for the Outer portion of this tournament, but declined to claim the prize initially, wanting instead to earn it through a sincere challenge, prompting and inviting many of the observers to play with her.

While many came to watch the tournament -- in its second attempt, as the first was delayed -- no one dared challenge the confident sera. Despite initial refusal, Mistress Adeline tried in earnest to have the second half of the tournament in the Inner Bailey, to provide challenge to sera Meryl, yet no one stepped forward, who subsequently won by default.
