  • Northern Lessons with sera Ambra Blackthorne

Twenty-fifth day of the Fifth Moon,
    Nineteenth Year of Recent Awakenings

In accordance with the will of Her Majesty and in upholding the duties charged to me as Junior Chronicler, I hereby submit the account of Northern Lessons with sera Ambra Blackthorne.

Sera Ambra Blackthorne, Lead Teacher with the Linguistic Project Assembly (commonly known as LPA), recently held a Northern language lesson in the Lecture Hall. At six late bells on Suns, the gong was sounded to advise that a lecture was about to commence.

Background information to various languages was provided. For instance, those who are traders as a profession have been known to use Eastern to communicate. Western is the language of science and is only taught within the Collegium. Teanga is the native tongue of Her Majesty and the language of the Seelie Fae and beginning Teanga may be taught to Newly Awakened. Northern is a very commanding language and is His Excellency's native tongue. To show the high regard in which She holds the Consort, Her Majesty has decreed that Northern is the language of the Court. Newly Awakened may study Northern with no restrictions.

Being fluent in Teanga, Northern and Eastern, with some Western, sera Ambra is able to tailor the lessons suit the audience. The class attended by this Chronicler focussed on Northern for beginners. Sera Ambra delivered enjoyable exercises with the class learning how to say our names in Northern and learning the words for some common activities such as curtsy and bow. Sera Ambra also demonstrated the sound of Eastern, Teanga and Western by translating common phrases.

Sera Ambra stated that she teaches because "I love languages. To learn their origins and hear the variations in the different tongues. Language is an important part of history."

Although the lesson was interrupted a couple of times by a ghostly apparition of a woman in a sleeveless dress seeming to hide something in the southern wall, our teacher assured us not to be alarmed, saying the ghosts are harmless and are more like castle memories and can not really see us.

Sera Ambra does not have set times for her lectures but will always sound the gong to alert residents.
