The Great Skotos Split Is Here [UPDATED]

The long-planned Skotos split is here. We are going to be separating Skotos into the four games that we're passing off to individual players (Marrach, TEC, the game formerly known as Ironclaw Online, the game formerly known as Lazarus Sleeping), and in the near future the core Skotos site will shutdown.

Here's how it will work:
* On Monday, we will turn off the ability to make any purchases through the main site. This will be the end of credit card purchases for Skotos games.
* We will run final automated credit card purchases on Tuesday morning. This is typical, in that our regular subscriptions are always set to run on the 1st through the 28th.
* On Wednesday, we will begin converting the games over to the new auth server that I've been working on for the last month and a half. All data will be converted over from the moment I grab the database. This means that all of your account information, including all payments (but not including any credit card information or Paypal information) will be duped to all the games: you'll be able to play any of them for the time you'd previously paid at the main Skotos site.
* We'll then start integrating the individual sites for each game with the new stand-alone setup.
* And likely I'll be resolving bugs in the auth server that only turn up through extensive usage.
* Meanwhile, we'll start handing off games to the individuals who will be running it in the future. I'm at this point over the time I'd initially committed to Skotos by a bit more than three weeks, but I'm expecting I'll need to offer support a little into May to make sure everyone is running well and that I've helped Christopher, Skotos, and the game leads deal with any intricacies of the hand-off.
* We'll request that all games remove all information from users who didn't stick with their game within a year.

I hope this will go as smoothly as possible. There will surely be bumps in the road. In particular, expect some random downtimes on Wednesday, when I convert over the games to the new servers, and expect the potential for problems on *next* Thursday, when I see how things work in the new setup.

A Few Updates as of 5/3:

1.) Castle Marrach, TEC, and Allegory of Empires are now split out from the main Skotos UserDB, which is the first (and biggest) step in separating these games. Multiversal Revelations will follow on Monday.

2.) Each site has a new login page of the form login.itsdomainname. This is the proper place to login to that game, and where you should access all UserDB functionality. Anything you do on the main Skotos users pages will no longer be reflected. Yes, that means you should be using the new pages to update your accounts, purchase months of play, and purchase subscriptions. Credit card payments are no longer possible, but Paypal is.

3.) Skotos is still running the games as of this moment, but they'll be transferred to the individual teams by this time next month.

4.) We've had some problems with credit cards continuing to run on the older UserDB system. We've refunded any bills that went through on the main system following the split, and apologize for the inconvenience. The plan is to turn the old UserDB off tomorrow, so that will absolutely stop the bills at this point. If you were accidentally billed, do note both that the amount was refunded the same day AND it isn't reflected on the new systems. [And as of Monday morning, those old charges seem to have been halted entirely.]

5.) We've discovered that about 20 accounts have credits of various amounts of them. This is a concept that is no longer supported in any meaningful way on the new UserDB, so we'll convert those credits to days of play at the most generous ratio.

A Missive from the Office of the Chronicler

The responsibility of the Office of the Chronicler is to maintain an ongoing record of castle life and share the experience of notable events with those who were not in attendance themselves. The Queen and Her Court rely heavily upon these chronicles to keep them informed about what goes on within the castle beyond the Royal Presence. Indeed, it is not uncommon for a chronicler to be called before the Royal Court in order to present their version of events.

Chroniclers are expected to maintain an objective attitude in their reports. We are often called upon to record the statements of individuals involved in questionable incidents, which may be later be used as part of a formal investigation. At other times, we may be required to attend significant events, in order that an impartial record may be preserved.

Aside from any specific records a Chronicler might be asked to make, they are also asked to share regularly with the castle (via this board) the daily events of life here. Beyond Convocations and Royal Balls, beyond criminal investigations and grand displays of magic, there are many small events and happenings that are of interest to many, and it is our duty to record and share them.

The position of Chronicler is an honoured and valued one. In fact, it is one of the few court appointments that may be earned by those newly come to the castle and may lead to greater honours for those who carry out their duties well. Along with the possibility of advancement, the position offers the ability to meet and interact with a wide variety of castle residents, to hear their stories, to share in their joys and woes, and to assist in preserving those stories for all time.

Those who are interested in becoming a Chronicler should approach the Chronicler of the Court or one of the Senior Chroniclers directly. It is wise to prepare a sample of your work beforehand to demonstrate your skill and understanding of the task. Recall that your chronicle does not need to be of a large event, but of any notable occurrence, whether two or twenty people were involved.

Those who wish to request the services of a Chronicler--to make a record of a guild event, for example, or to make a personal statement for the Royal Court should speak to the Chronicler of the Court or a Senior Chronicler. Such records shall be kept absolutely private or made public at the behest of the requester.

Current Roster of the Office of the Chronicler
As of the Tenth Moon, Twentieth Year of Recent Awakenings

The Office serves the Keep in varying capacities through the efforts of its Chronicler of the Court, Senior Chroniclers, and Junior Chroniclers. Aspirant Chroniclers are essentially Chroniclers-in-Training and can often be found shadowing Senior or Junior Chroniclers.

The Chronicler of the Court is responsible for attending and recording any Royal Events, including Winter Courts and other Royal Functions. In addition, he or she handles the administrative matters of the Office of the Chronicler.

Senior Chroniclers are responsible for recording Inner Bailey functions and happenings. In addition to these duties, Senior Chroniclers recruit Aspirant Chroniclers and assist in the training of both Aspirant and Junior Chroniclers. Junior Chroniclers are responsible for Outer Bailey functions and occurrences, while Aspirants assist. However, any Chronicler should be suitably trained to handle any sort of matter that comes before them.

    The Nature of This Book

Denizens must maintain diligence and respect for what are, in effect, the official records of the occurrences of Castle Marrach, and as such Property of the Queen.

Chronicles are not open for discussion. A chronicle is that which is most carefully prepared after the dissemination of facts based on extant witnesses and interviews with involved parties. They are then assimilated, bound and documented so that we bear record of all that has occurred, as impartially and accurately as possible, unto the ages.

Should you find issue with a particular Chronicle, either through an inaccuracy of reporting or omission of specifics, you may take it up with the Chronicler of the Court directly. If, after investigation, your issue is found to be warranted, said Chronicle will be amended in full. You may also directly scroll the Chronicler in question if such seems the more amenable, or post a retort upon the Public Board as is deemed needful.

However, you may not arbitrarily scroll common opinion, comment or debate along the length of the Chronicles themselves, and deface them in their entirety.

Each and every Chronicle is indeed considered to be the Official Property of the Queen herself, and any defacement of said Chronicle constitutes damage as surely as throwing stones through windows, rest assured.

Therefore and hence, if a debate is to be undertaken regarding the content of Chronicles, let it then be done on the public board and not upon the Chronicles themselves. And in fairness to all and with only intent to see that the events of our hallowed halls are accurately documented, all are encouraged to bring forth any difference in variation to the attention of the Chronicler of the Court for a swift resolution.

[OOC: Chronicles are bound in the compendium located in the Royal Library Reading Room and the Lecture Hall. The Chronicler Forum is not a public board, per se. Naturally, debate is always encouraged, and should you so feel the need to comment publicly on anything you don't agree with as scribed here whether quality, quantity or lack thereof, inconsistencies and errors in general, then, by all means, do so on the IC boards.]
