Fourth day of the Third Moon,
    Twentieth Year of Recent Awakenings

In accordance with the will of Her Majesty and in upholding the duties charged to me as Senior Chronicler, I hereby submit the account of the
    Royal Hunting Grounds.

Members of Court gathered in the Royal Gardens yesterday afternoon for a surprise announcement from Her Majesty Queen Vivienne. Upon hearing "All kneel for Her most Serene, Gracious and Merciful Majesty. The Queen, Queen Vivienne of Mount Ardan!" from the courtyard, those present knelt and waited for Her presence.

When the Queen entered, She asked those present to follow her as She had “something special in store for you all.” The party was then led to the southwestern section of the Royal Garden and to a silvery-bronze archway. Her Majesty delicately ran her fingertips down the archway and the runes and markings upon the archway flickered and began to glow with a pale green luminescence. Suddenly, a pearly fog began to swirl within the archway's center. Her Majesty then entered the archway, closely followed by those present.

The archway led to an opening within a deciduous forest, splotched with decaying autumnal leaves and mounds of snow. Queen Vivienne beckoned the party northward, "Come, you don't wish to get lost, the faeries will keep you.” Eventually a majestic forest clearing was reached, where was displayed the cerulean and amber heraldic banner of His Highness Prince Bertram.

Her Majesty announced, ”Everyone, welcome to the Royal Hunting Grounds … Just over two years ago now, as you all should recall, His Highness Prince Bertram, Our Son, fell ill into a coma and has been at rest ever since..."

"In His honour, and in dedication to His improving health, We have created this place from His Highness' dreams, which We have been walking these past moons. A place where the autumnal leaves still fall even in Winter, a place dedicated to The Hunt, which He loves so dearly."

"This is a place where Our Court henceforth may come to engage in proper, Courtly hunting. It is exclusive to the Court and to those servants here specifically to attend the Court. The common folk are not permitted in this place unless serving their betters, and are not to hunt the game unless doing so in accompaniment of the Court."

"In time We will have a guard posted to enforce that. For now … All of you are permitted to wander the forest as you please. In time, when His Highness returns, He will teach of the bow and perhaps the spear, and teach courtiers, knights and nobles the way of the hunt. Until then, the animals will be left alone, but you are permitted to pick the wildlife as you please."

Gesturing to a simple lean-to shelter Her Majesty informed the gathering, "Our friend Finnbar has faithfully set up a camp here. He will purchase certain berries found throughout the forest, and in turn give you tokens, which can be used to buy a number of things here at this encampment, from new dyes, to furs and other hunting related trinkets."

    Royal Court and Knight’s Challenge

Queen Vivienne then announced, ”Royal Court will be five weeks from this day, on Sun's, the 7th Day of the 4th Moon. We will accept petitions until Sun's the 17th of this Moon, two weeks from now, after which petitions will go on the boards for commentary until Sun's the 31st of this Moon."

"Court will be at the same time as this day's gathering, the third late bell. At that Court We will also announce the list of candidates for the Knight's Challenge, to take place shortly thereafter. Knights have until the 5th Day of the 4th Moon to submit in writing to the Chambers their sponsorship choices for the Knight's Challenge."

"This year We will re-introduce the tradition of the People's Choice Candidate. A ballot box will be placed in the center of the Grand Bridge, upon which every denizen of the realm is permitted to submit a ballot for a single waking individual of their choosing who they believe exemplifies the aspects of Chivalry. At Royal Court this box will be collected and the name of the individual most voted will be Royally sponsored to enter the Knight's Challenge as the "candidate of the people”."

Guests were then invited to partake in the banquet and to explore the forest. The clearing holds several references to Prince Bertram including a spectacular statue, designed by Mistress Tristana, of a rearing stag and a rich red beer with several of His Highness’s favourite flavors.

For the occasion, Her Majesty wore a beautiful example of proper courtly female hunting attire: a golden brown baudekin sleeveless corseted doublet with slashed segmented sleeves and a velvet split-front martial skirt, a voluminous autumnal red silk long-sleeved blouse, and dark brown leather heeled tall boots, braided belt, archery gloves and braided circlet. This was accessorised with a filigree pale gold and ruby stomacher and a dusky fox fur hooded capelet.

Present were Queen Vivienne, Princess Maeveen, Ladies Charmiam and Sinvy, Lords Bernier and Vestio, Dames Eeva and Galatea, Mistresses Adeline, Brook, Ezraella, Heulyn, Lilly, Tristana, ser Anton, Master Edstave, ser Halvard and this chronicler.

This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as I humbly ask all readers please indicate to me through discretion any falsehoods I may have mistakenly communicated. It is by means of the conservation of the Past that we continue to serve Her Majesty and give substance to those that follow.

In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, The Office of the Chronicler, and the Denizenry of Her Majesty's Realm.
