Downtimes: June 24 - July 2nd

We've got another batch of shutdowns coming in late June and early July, so that the machines can be repaired for the newest bug, the ZombieLoad CPU bug.

In general, the Genesis games (Grendel, TEC, TEC-Test) all have reboots scheduled for the absolute middle of the night, so I'll be taking each down the previous evening at midnight and bringing them back up the next morning at 9am.

The SkotOS games have always been more robust about reboots, so we'll let them reboot on their own, though there's some chance for an ~2 hour data loss. In any case, I'll be checking them after the 2-hour window when I can, though Marrach has a middle-of-the-night reboot, so that'll be the next morning.

The UserDB and Web reboots will cause some downtime for the entire site, but again they will hopefully come up cleanly.

    Twenty-Fifth day, Tenth Moon
Year Five of the Recent Awakenings,
And updated by the Office hence,

In accordance to the will of the Lord Chamberlain, and in upholding the duties charged to us as Chroniclers, we hereby submit an account of the
Royal Library and Outer Bailey Library.

The Castle's libraries, located within the Inner and Outer Baileys, are more than a repository for knowledge and fantastical whimsy, but have become social centres for both the Winter Court and the Outer Bailey populace.

The Inner Bailey' library, the Royal Library, is tended to by Mistress Adeline, the Royal Librarian. With shelves lining its walls on two levels, there are books on almost every conceivable subject, from martial sciences, to fantasy, to biological science and art. There are books on heraldry, comportment, history. The wealth of knowledge available within the books on the shelves is undeniably large.

The Royal Library is only accessible to those with access to the Inner Bailey, and in the early years of Recent Awakenings, guests hungered for access, access that was unavailable.

Sera Astana, then a Chronicler, wanted to change that, so she founded the Outer Bailey library with the support of then-Master Duraze. No room was available to house the library in the Outer Bailey, so it was housed in the Lecture hall until a room became available.

That first Outer Bailey Library was housed in the hallway leading to the Outer Bailey Crafts Hall, located below the Outer Bailey dining hall. Despite efforts to make the small room comfortable and cozy, its small nature limited the type of activities that could take place within. That would change when the Library moved to a room off the Outer Bailey Theatre.

A grand opening was held to reveal the redesigned Outer Bailey Library, now housed in a room once used by the Clothiers. The larger room allowed for couches and chairs to be placed, with a fireplace to make the book space comfortable and enjoyable for social use.

The opening was part of the inaugural Frosty Fun Fest, a seven-day festival hosted by Mistress Euphelia, then Chronicler of the Court. The library's opening was held on the third day of the festival, on the twenty-third day of the Ninth Moon, Year Fourteen of Recent Awakenings. More than twenty people came to take part in the storytelling game and celebrate the new library.

Books in the Inner Bailey's Royal Library cannot be withdrawn from the Library premises themselves, but there is a comfortable reading room found on the second level of the Library. As well, several comfortable chairs are found on the main level, comfortable enough to read a book or two.

The Outer Bailey Library operates on the same rules: books cannot be withdrawn from the Library premises themselves. However, as the Outer Library is not always open, a Lending Program was instituted. Several popular books were copied, and can be loaned out to denizens to read at their leisure. The books must be returned within two weeks, and no more than three books may be borrowed at a time. At last count, there were roughly 250 titles available in the Lending Program.

Currently, the Royal Library is managed by the Royal Librarian, Mistress Adeline. As well, the Outer Bailey library is maintained by sera Calamity.

This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as we humbly ask that readers indicate to us through their discretion any falsehood we may have mistakenly communicated. It is by means of the conservation of the Past that we continue to serve Her Majesty and give substance to those that follow.

    In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, the Lord Chamberlain, the Chronicler's Office, and the Denizenry of our Gracious Queen's Realm;
