The Royal Guard

To the Denizenry of Her Majesty's Castle Marrach;

In accordance to the will of the Lord Chamberlain, and in upholding the duties charged to me as Court Chronicler, I hereby submit an account of the Royal Guard.

The Royal Guard is the elite crime-fighting and Queen-Protecting force within Castle Marrach. Its membership includes Knights, former Watchmen, Duelists and Battle Guild members, as well as those who dedicated their life directly to the Royal Guard. It is expected that someday its roster may include former members of the Castle Sentry as well.

As part of the Royal Army, the Royal Guard works alongside the Castle Sentry to keep order within the Outer Bailey. Unlike the Sentry, however, the Royal Guard is responsible for keeping order within the Inner Bailey as well. The Royal Guard is directly instructed to defend and protect Her Royal Majesty the Queen, the Royalty and Nobility of Castle Marrach, as well as Her Majesty’s Court.

The Royal Guard is responsible for handling the investigations of High Crimes. Under command of its Captain, Dame Takara Ino Delamer (also known as Umichan), the Royal Guard investigates the high crimes committed against the denizens of Marrach, especially those specifically against Her Majesty (such as treason or rebellion).

Those with interest in the Royal Guard are recommended to begin their journey in the Outer Bailey by seeking membership in one of the many martial guilds or organizations located therein, though it is not absolutely required. They are expected to have a flawless criminal record, though exceptions have been made. The Royal Guard holds practices within the Outer Bailey on regular intervals to seek new blood, though it is preferred that the interested party have some experience in Castle life. Sir Lucus, one of the Royal Guard Knights, is in charge of all duties related to recruitment.

However, the Royal Guard is not just about swinging swords and arresting trouble-makers, says Dame Takara. “The Guard is a dangerous life. It is more than a job.” Evidence of the Dame’s claim can be seen in the injuries the Guards take, as well as the deaths of some of their membership, including the deaths of Sir Lucus, Sergeant Cordon, and former Sergeant Briseis. “And that’s the easy stuff,” the Captain added. “Some have been poisoned or tortured.”

The Captain continued though, steering the conversation in a more pleasant direction. “There is very little that is more rewarding than this job,” she said. Indeed, the Captain, Sirs Howe, Lucus, and Dame Rosemarie earned their Knighthoods through deeds performed while serving Her Majesty’s Royal Guard.

Some of the faces in the Royal Guard are Captain Takara Ino Delamer, Sirs Lucus and Howe, Sergeant Cordon, and the various Yeomen who are too numerous to name.

This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as I humbly ask that the readers indicate to me through their discretion any falsehood I may have mistakenly communicated.

In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, the Lord Chamberlain, the Chronicler's Office, and the Denizenry of our Gracious Queen's Realm;

Ser Darcy
Court Chronicler
