Downtime Report: Wednesday Night

We had an abrupt and unannounced downtime for all games and services starting sometime after 9pm PT on Wednesday evening. This was due to a massive power outage at our cloud computing facility of the sort that redundant systems are supposed to ensure never happen. After about an hour they were able to diagnose that the power was out. It took a few more hours for them to start restoring service.

At this moment, everything is back up except for Ironclaw and TEC. At the rate they're restoring things, I hope those will be back up in the next 15-30 minutes, but it's entirely in their hands.

As is typically the case with a sudden reboot, TEC and GR have to be rolled back. This is already done with GR. The TEC rollback should be just a few hours due to the more recent backups recently instituted, but I need to get the machine back before I can verify that.

Update: Ironclaw and TEC are now back too. The TEC rollback was 2.5 hours, from 9.30pm PT (when everything crashed) to 7.00 pm PT.

Grendel's Revenge Free Accounts

On December 15th of 2012, Grendel's Revenge enabled free accounts for play. This announcement is following in the suit of TEC's own free account announcement, serving as a reminder to any new or returning players that are browsing the forums.

For all the details about what free accounts are, look no further than here:

In order to log into GR for free, simply visit this page to sign into your Skotos account (ignoring any subscription notices it may give):

  • Question for the Sanctum

If you have a character in the Sanctum, I have a question for you:

If I were to make a forum for our clan, would you use it?

I was thinking of something mostly for IC matters, but there would be at least one section for OOC discussion as well. It would be a great way for IC information to get exchanged even when our play times don't match up. Clan-wide announcements would be easier to make, and it would personally make Ophsidian easier to get ahold of even when RL matters are keeping me from the game.

Why not just post in this forum? Well, it's not that I expect the info in the clan forum to be sooper sekrit, it's just that there's only one IC subforum here and I don't want to spam it with clan-specific communications. That, and putting internal info in a forum that is typcially used for gameworld-wide announcements feels awkward.

But I also realize that this would be one more website to check and keep up with, which would probably be the main concern for most.

TL;DR Version Clan forum-would you use it? Good: facilitate RP, better communication. Bad: yet another website. Please post an answer below.

I would not. I don't believe there's much of a point while the playerbase is so small.

I am hardly bothered enough to visit the Skotos forums once or twice a week, let alone a separate website.

I would be super active. For a week. Maybe less. Then I'd forget about it and never go there again.

The Lab has a private forum, and even in the most active of times it wasn't used all that much. I had much more success in a clan-specific thread than I did a clan-specific forum.

Smarmy the Titan bellows to you, "You look almost like an Ugly."

Blackhand the Orc grumbles: I don't know what to call you. No ugly is that vile, and no proper creature of Uthgol has ever had such a lack of honor!
