    *writ in mud*

    Denizens of Uthgol,
Please heed the below warning, it was found upon the deceased. From a roll of papyrus sealed in red:

The name to whom this letter is addressed to has been splotched with blood, making it illegible.

Blades, read well. It seems like we've got a lot of extra work coming our way. Reviewing the increased activity of monsters located within Uthgol, those in command at Isolde have decided to bring in a specialist from the mainland, a Tactician. We haven't been told the specifics, such as his area of expertise or even his name, but Rohgland informs me that he's very talented. They're planning for him to stay in Isolde training those stationed here, as well as the volunteers and even some of the mercenaries! They're placing a lot of trust in whoever this is, he had better be worth the trouble. According to the last letter we received from the mainland, he's expected to be here in a few weeks, and that a ship is already on the way. They're supposed to be sending some more information on him as well. Command sure as hell has their priorities backwards.

    Stained Blades Captain,
    Hauvland

*A second scroll is tacked at the bottom of Stomp's, similar to the first but with a different message and with a green seal.*

The name to whom this letter is addressed to has been splotched with blood, making it illegible.

Orders from the top, men. As I thought, it looks like we'll be playing host to someone important over in Isolde. Oak House says we need to increase the frequency of our scouting trips to twice a week, if not more. Looks like you'll get a chance to work off that belly, Portheim. Apparently, he's some big tactician they're placing a lot of trust in. No doubt the sod is noble, or rich, or both. Don't like the sound of it much, but if he can teach you lot how to take down a troll or two without losing a few limbs then I'm all for it.

    Gnarled-Bow Rangers Captain,
    Montello

*A third scroll is tacked below the other two*

I Archimage the Great have news to share with Uthgol. I believe it to be related to the missives found on the dead flesh of our prey. While I was in the gold mine talking to one of my lead s, a piece of parchment fell from one of the higher ledges. I glanced up and saw a shadow cursing and I was unable to catch him before he vanished from sight. He apparently was one strongly gifted in magic because he also teleported two of my s along with him...

Here is the most disturbing part. My s told me upon their rebirth (for they had immediately clawed their own throats out before the human could extract any information from them), that he had teleported them to the Shrine.... THE SHRINE! How in Grendel's name was he able to get into the Shrine?! I will also attach the note that was dropped below this.

      You read a rolled note.

A message is written on this note in skillful penmanship. It reads:

As previously discussed, your mission is to gather information on the more dangerous monsters of this region. Locate and infiltrate their lairs, then study them. Once you have acquired what you believe to be adequate information, quickly report back to Isolde and directly to me. Ergrand would not understand the finer details of these operations. Write your findings below on this roll of papyrus.

The writing below this point seems to be from someone else. It is hastily scrawled.

Archimage, a minotaur. Looks like a talented leader of sorts. May be trouble if put in control of a large number of monsters.

Lair is well defended and expansive. Many traps and large open rooms. Can't find their purpose.

Located mine. Looks like the minotaur Archimage is~~

The writing appears to stop here abruptly.

*a note has further writing appended to it*

It has been two days since they sighting of the human spy yet I have heard nothing for any of the other clans or the wanderers. Is there not anyone but myself concerned about this incursion?

I found this scroll on a human the other day.

            To the men,

I was speaking with Lieutenant Durland in the barracks today and I was able to finally confirm the identities of the two new guests that arrived in Isolde earlier last week. The first, who we've heard a little bit of gossip on is one "Bartholomew Winsgate Leomane." Some son of minor nobility back in Loth I've been told. Not quite who we thought it was going to be, but it seems that he wasn't alone. Duke Halfmynd of Crowknoll sent his eldest, Ergrand Halfmynd. I hear that he'll be training the troops along with Bartholomew. I guess Heebler wins the pot after all. Luckiest damn corporal I've ever seen.

            You're welcome.

Entering the Shrine, you see two stakes plunged into the ground. A large blood-stained scroll is pierced through in the top corners by the stakes, holding it open and plainly noticeable. The scroll reads,...

Yesterday following an intrusion of a small group of uglies onto Labyrinth territory and rumored similar intrusions of other clans, things very important to all of Uthgol happened. The intruders seemed to be mapping out all the lairs and dens of Uthgol, further evidence of abnormal activities from the uglies. I, Archimage the Great, leader of the Labyrinth, organized a scouting party of our own, in coordination with Sabine and some of Usuichii's assistants.

We went to investigate the lands around the ugly city and to attempt to capture a live ugly for questioning. By Grendel, we found a human and were able to keep it long enough to determine that the humans have brought in some other uglies from far away that they apparently revere as great warriors. These warmongers are apparently teaching the uglies of the city new ways to fight us.

Normally I would scoff at the gesture for its futility. However, in light of recent events of the ease in which the humans have been able to penetrate the defenses of our greatest lairs as well as that of the Shrine its self, I think it wise to at least consider the possibility of real danger.

Should the need arise I will once again call on the monsters of Uthgol. I would like to be able to even count on the wanderers, who though they may not feel this effects them, I believe it does.

                Watch!
