After several player reports of decreased spawn rates, spawn rates have been slightly increased across the board. They should be back to normal now, but may require additional tweaking.

    An OOC Chat Channel

I'm bringing back the Important Updates thread.

Those who just check here, make sure you don't miss the following other sources of updates:

With that out of the way, we've just released the @gchat channel. It's a public, fully out-of-character chat channel available in-game. Here's how to join in:

@toggle-gchat - Turn the channel on (or off).
@gchat - Talk on the channel (if it's currently active).
@host-gchat - Start hosting the channel, making it active and setting a topic, if no one is hosting the channel at the moment.

Come on in - conversation's lively.

(And as a final note, the effect that strengthened the monsters' connection to the void enough for the call command to work will likely be fading away soon.)

    USAGE: freemote <what>
NOTE: Use %n in place of your name in your freemote.

EXAMPLE: freemote Descending from the skies above, %n reached out a
finger, which glew. With a booming voice, he spoke, "Let all emote freely." Pence was also present.

Would show to everyone in the room:

Descending from the skies above, Svyn reached out a
finger, which glew. With a booming voice, he spoke, "Let all emote freely." Pence was also present.

    ===========================
    Notes:
Freemoting without including your name is not allowed.
"Power freemoting" (Freemoting in which you force the actions of another player) is not allowed.
We're going to be monitoring freemoting very carefully for any abuse.
Abuse will not be tolerated, and WILL result in the loss of the privilege.
Freemoting in it's current form has been disabled.

In it's place, we have expanded the existing emote command. You can now use the %n shortcut in an emote to insert your name. This new functionality functions just like freemote did.

Note: Emotes without the '%n' shortcut will behave normally.

We've also included a second shortcut for your name of @ you can use @ in emotes in place of %n to insert your name.

Please note that free emotes done in this manner will not automatically capitalise. Capitalisation will need to be done manually.

We've also introduced the ability to target others and objects with your emotes. To do such, you put the name of what you want to target between <>.
    Ex:
escending from the heavens, %n points a glowing finger at <pence>.
    Pence would see:
Descending from the heavens, Svyn points a glowing finger at you.
    Others would see:
Descending from the heavens, Svyn points a glowing finger at Pence.

As always, please @report any issues.

    An Enchanted Evening

    Finding Enchanted Items:
    - All unidentified enchanted armor items will now appear as 'glowing' (e.g. a supreme glowing gorget). This should make finding enchanted items on corpses easier.

    Armor Scrolls:
    - Chanting armor scrolls will no longer apply adjectives (shimmering, humming, gleaming, etc) to their item targets. (Weapon scrolls will remain the same for now.)
    - Fixed a bug that allowed armor to be repaired indefinitely.
    - Because of the new use of 'glowing' as an adjective for unidentified enchanted items, all existing items with this adjective (due to armor scrolls) have had this adjective removed.

    NOTE:
We are looking to move away from these armor scroll 'enchantment' adjectives (shimmering, humming, gleaming, etc) since armor items have 'real' enchantments now.
    - If you have any of these adjectives you want removed from your armor items, please send us an @assist.

Please @report if you have any issues with the above changes.

    Haste Update

Note that this is a late posting: This change was actually implemented on 5 Jan 2013.

    Haste:
    Potency increased at higher ranks.

This is the result of further investigation/testing of Haste after concerns were raised about Haste's usefulness at higher levels.

The sense command has received a few tweaks:
    • For leaders, rather than listing all fanes, it now lists only those fanes for which you have an appropriate role (as with other roles), or fanes that are not stable. This essentially removes some extra lines regarding stable fanes.
    • Everyone can now sense their caste's avatar throne.
    • A roundtime has been added to the command.

    Merry Grendelmas

    Drain Life:
Increased healing when used against a target that is stunned or otherwise incapacitated.
A stronger stat drain may now replace an existing weaker one.
Reduced the chance that healing amount will be abnormally low.
Added a moderate accuracy bonus based on Tooth & Nail.

    Cold Touch:
Added a moderate accuracy bonus based on Tooth & Nail.

    Corpse Feast:
Now has a chance to temporarily increase the feaster's attributes, partially based on the attributes of the consumed creature.

Fortify, Carapace, Sphere of Protection and Endure Damage:
Duration at low levels increased. Duration at high levels decreased. Recharge time increased.
Fixed bug that significantly reduced the effect of Sphere of Protection when cast on others.

    Haste:
Duration at low levels increased. Duration at high levels decreased. Recharge time adjusted to be shorter than duration. Potency notably decreased at higher levels.

    Thrown Weapons:
Can now throw nearly any item, not just specialized throwing weapons. Items not designed for throwing will tend to do less damage. In general, items that hold some weight (but aren't overly large) will tend to do more damage.

    Boulder Throw:
Can now hurl corpses, albeit not nearly as effectively as boulders.

    Stop'Em:
If a Stop'Em user is guarding another character, and both those characters are hit by the same area attack, the guardian will now protect their charge from some of the damage. Damage to the guardian is unchanged. Effectiveness is based partially on relative sizes of the characters.

    Sneak Attack & Snipe:
Added moderate accuracy bonuses based on relevant weapon skills (Tooth & Nail, Krush, Slice, Stab'Em or Missile Weapons). Characters with low ranks in Sneak Attack or Snipe will not fully utilize bonuses from highly-ranked weapon skills.
Added Duelist accuracy bonus when applicable. Characters with low ranks in Sneak Attack will not be able to fully utilize the bonus from hightly-ranked Duelist.
The Martial Artist bonus to accuracy with Tooth & Nail now applies to Sneak Attack when used without a weapon.

    Hide:
Difficulty of the HIDE command now increases based on nearby attentive observers.

    Inspire:
Fixed bug that allowed Inspire to work while the leader was hidden.

    Mining:
The amount of resources found with the MINE command now varies with each successful attempt.
Favor gain for highly-effective users of the MINE command is reduced.

    Infamy:
Death now slightly decreases infamy - those who fall often in battle will not be held in such awe and fear by others.
Destruction of buildings now has significantly less effect on infamy.

See the associated Mechanics thread for additional information and discussion. Please use @feedback (or the discussion thread) to let us know how these changes affect you in practice, and as always, please @report any problems.

    Wherefort art thou minions?

The command command has been updated. You can now specify "all" instead of a number.

    For example, you could use:
command all grunt to follow me

Note that the previous functionality has been maintained, you can still use:
    command grunt to follow me
command 3 grunt to follow me

Also note that you can now refer to grunts, warriors, and golems as minion(s). For example:
command 3 minion to follow me
command all minion to follow me

As always, please @report any problems and don't forget today's event "With a Bang".
