Skotos Forums Closing: September 30

The Skotos Forums are officially closing on September 30, 2020. They will go read-only on that date, and will be removed entirely sometime afterward.

We encourage the games that spun off of Skotos to create new discussion mediums of their own, and some have already done so. But the centralized discussions for Skotos will soon be a thing of the past (just as the centralized Skotos site is).

We've also posted a goodbye message to the community on our main page, which you can find here:

  • Merchant Prices

Have the materials buyers prices been reduced permanently? Or is the reduced prices of the market currently caused by the market at large?

Are gem market price changes based on each individual type of gem? Or gems in general?

The market for stones goes up and down, depending on how much stone has been sold lately, I believe. Every stone is different, and is priced differently. You'll be paid more for a ruby than a piece of flint.

If you're unsure what kind of stone you're carrying, show it to Mondan and he'll tell you what it is, along with a price.
Now you know how NPCs feel at least. They wake up one day, ready to live their lives - and then someone stabs them in the face.

And that is how you can track the market too.

Grab a very expesnive stone, an absolutely massive sapphire worth a talent and a half, etc. Show him that same piece often, and you can establish a 'high' and 'low' for the market based on what he offers you. Any time you want to sell your stones, stop by and show that one stone, and you can determine "Market is at about 70%." and then decide whether you want to sell or wait for prices to go back up.

Games just aren't any fun without accompanying spreadsheets for min-maxing.

What I'm asking is if each stone type has its own market modifier. Because I recently did some comparison shopping between Mondan and RV gem buyer lady.

RV was offering more for pearls, and Mondan was offering more for rubies but WAY less for pearls. I understand how the system works, but I'm wondering if each individual stone type has its own market modifier based on how many of THAT stone were sold recently.

              So like:
              Flint Low: 2d High: 7d Current: 5d
              Ruby Low: 160d High 1000d Current: 276d

              So on and so forth.

Unsure, Sorry. I think only the GMs or Armataan would know this.
