  • SP Gain Change

The SP gained from sparring in practice has been cut in half once a character has achieved 300 total combat ranks. This should keep sparring a viable option for characters to train until they have reached a level they can move onto the various hunting areas. To offset this change, the amount of SP that can be gained from the higher level creatures in the hunting areas as been increased based on the difficulty of the creature.

This system is still being evaluated and is subject to be tweaked in the future as we continue to monitor things.

The earned SP cap of 75 that was temporarily put back in has been removed and a minor change has been made to when SP gained by sparring lessens.

Instead of dropping at 300 total combat ranks it now drops after earning 2500 total combat SP.

Tears have been replaced in the gameworld with the following changes:

        - Nightmare tears are now difficult to distinguish from normal tears. There are ways to do so with a trained eye.

        - Tears will now expire after a set period of time has elapsed. They will still crack, but will no longer be efficacious.

Please note that tears remain strictly forbidden by the Republic and the Cult of Iridine, and using them in public places will certainly be met by disgrace and censure, if not jail and persecution.

The change made to sparring last week has been adjusted. The SP rate for sparring in practice mode will gradually decrease between 2500 total SP earned and 5000 total SP earned. The decrease is linear: at 2500 SP, the rate is unchanged (1.0); at 5000 SP, the rate is half (0.5); at 3750 SP the rate is midway between the two (0.75).

Please note that the SP gain for sparring out of practice remains the same.

The average SP gain available once a character has passed the SP gain threshold has been raised. That is to say, once SP gain has reached the "cap" for a given cycle, the average amount of SP earned by successive successful actions has been raised.

There was a good question about whether old tears would be grandfathered, or if they would expire like the re-enabled tears do. The answer is that we specifically grandfathered existing tears. They will not expire.

We changed our methodology on this. Rather than adjusting the base level of SP gain to raise the minimum SP gain rate, we've just instituted a base floor for SP gain at .05. A character should under no circumstances receive less than .05 SP per successful action. Please send in a detailed report if you see that happening.

As always, thank you to everyone for bearing with us while we make the necessary adjustments to this system.

Minimum SP gain has been turned off while we re-calibrate our approach to the issue.

The minimum cap of .025 has been re-enabled with the appropriate restrictions for unconscious targets, practice mode, and the like.

Several other minor tweaks in SP gain have been made, in keeping with the various philosophical conversations that have taken place in the past several weeks. Please keep us informed with your feedback as you experience these changes.

SP rollover has been implemented. At the end of each training cycle, any SP potential under your threshold that has not been realized will be recorded and added to the threshold for the successive cycle. This rollover has been capped at 900 SP for weekly cycles. If you save up the maximum rollover of 900 SP, your threshold will be 900 + the current week, or roughly 1200 SP.

For the time being, cycles will continue on a weekly basis.

Characters that use tripping actions (such as "sweep") will now receive SP gain when attacking a prone target after using such a skill.

It is now possible to gain SP by watching other characters use skill sets that you use. The probability of this happen is greatly dependent on the skill differential between your character and the character she is watching. When this happens, you will be informed by a line telling you that you've managed to learn something from watching another person perform an action.

This applies to combat _and_ non-combat.
