The Great Skotos Split Is Here [UPDATED]

The long-planned Skotos split is here. We are going to be separating Skotos into the four games that we're passing off to individual players (Marrach, TEC, the game formerly known as Ironclaw Online, the game formerly known as Lazarus Sleeping), and in the near future the core Skotos site will shutdown.

Here's how it will work:
* On Monday, we will turn off the ability to make any purchases through the main site. This will be the end of credit card purchases for Skotos games.
* We will run final automated credit card purchases on Tuesday morning. This is typical, in that our regular subscriptions are always set to run on the 1st through the 28th.
* On Wednesday, we will begin converting the games over to the new auth server that I've been working on for the last month and a half. All data will be converted over from the moment I grab the database. This means that all of your account information, including all payments (but not including any credit card information or Paypal information) will be duped to all the games: you'll be able to play any of them for the time you'd previously paid at the main Skotos site.
* We'll then start integrating the individual sites for each game with the new stand-alone setup.
* And likely I'll be resolving bugs in the auth server that only turn up through extensive usage.
* Meanwhile, we'll start handing off games to the individuals who will be running it in the future. I'm at this point over the time I'd initially committed to Skotos by a bit more than three weeks, but I'm expecting I'll need to offer support a little into May to make sure everyone is running well and that I've helped Christopher, Skotos, and the game leads deal with any intricacies of the hand-off.
* We'll request that all games remove all information from users who didn't stick with their game within a year.

I hope this will go as smoothly as possible. There will surely be bumps in the road. In particular, expect some random downtimes on Wednesday, when I convert over the games to the new servers, and expect the potential for problems on *next* Thursday, when I see how things work in the new setup.

A Few Updates as of 5/3:

1.) Castle Marrach, TEC, and Allegory of Empires are now split out from the main Skotos UserDB, which is the first (and biggest) step in separating these games. Multiversal Revelations will follow on Monday.

2.) Each site has a new login page of the form login.itsdomainname. This is the proper place to login to that game, and where you should access all UserDB functionality. Anything you do on the main Skotos users pages will no longer be reflected. Yes, that means you should be using the new pages to update your accounts, purchase months of play, and purchase subscriptions. Credit card payments are no longer possible, but Paypal is.

3.) Skotos is still running the games as of this moment, but they'll be transferred to the individual teams by this time next month.

4.) We've had some problems with credit cards continuing to run on the older UserDB system. We've refunded any bills that went through on the main system following the split, and apologize for the inconvenience. The plan is to turn the old UserDB off tomorrow, so that will absolutely stop the bills at this point. If you were accidentally billed, do note both that the amount was refunded the same day AND it isn't reflected on the new systems. [And as of Monday morning, those old charges seem to have been halted entirely.]

5.) We've discovered that about 20 accounts have credits of various amounts of them. This is a concept that is no longer supported in any meaningful way on the new UserDB, so we'll convert those credits to days of play at the most generous ratio.

Hired Guard NPCs got a minor combat AI update. They are no longer the most stupid sword-wielding combatants in the game.

Taking Blackroot Language lessons, and trading things for tokens in Stromheim now gives you positive Nehal reputation so that....

If you've traded extensively with the Nehal, and have garnered enough reputation with them, you can simply "Go gate" to enter without having to interact with the gate guard. He'll recognize you as a friend of the tribe and let you (and anyone following you) in. Though, with the standard warning that if anyone following you acts up while there, it'll be on your head.

Exiting the nehal town no longer disbands anyone following you, making them exit individually.

Longarm Strike and Overhead strike for the 1-handed axes skillset no longer have the exact same description.

Temple Guards will no longer be seen roaming the gameworld at high speeds, ending up in random places doing random things. If they haven't reaquired a target for their wrath within 5 minutes, they will now despawn properly.

Using Cord Snares now requires 10 ranks of Deadfall Snares & using Sapling Snares now requires 20 ranks of Cord Snares. "You must learn to crawl before you can walk. And you must learn to walk before you can run."

The wait to re-roll a veteran character has been lowered from 7 days to 3 days (72 hours).

The captain of the ship traveling to and from Franlius & Iridine now blows a horn that can be heard for nearby outside areas when it docks in either place.

Ranks in Snare Disarming now directly affects how often you'll salvage all materials used in said snare. It is now beneficial to rank the skill all the way to 100.

Ranks in Find Firewood and Gather Twigs now directly affects how many branches or twigs you can find per action. It is now beneficial to rank these skills all the way to rank 100.

Ranks in Dig Firepit now determine the cosmetic look of your fire-pit. This description is notable in the action itself, the name of the fire pit, as well as the description. Also capping at rank 100. The national trait 'Natural ' will boost this somewhat as well.

Ranks in Shelter Building now determine the cosmetic look of your shelter. This description is notable in the action itself, the name of the lean-to, as well as the description. Also capping at rank 100. The national trait 'Natural ' will boost this somewhat as well. Also, you can now "look" at a lean-to and see what (if anything) is inside.

To go along with the recent torch update, crafted torches will now have a descriptive name based on their quality.

Ranks in Soil Foraging now determine the maximum number of grubs you can find per action. Again, the benefit caps at rank 100.

All of the above mentioned skills now take certain stats into account as well. If you have better than average in the stats they use, you'll hit the beneficial "cap" sooner than rank 100.

The Taxidermist in Stromheim will now mount (or buy) fish in addition to heads & animal corpses.

Specific Ranks in Hunting Lore Basics will now drop your success for Killing Blow (whether you actually know Killing Blow or not). This holds true all the way to rank 100.

At a specific rank (Different depending on the skill in question):

Gamebird Lore will drop your success further when killing gamebirds.
Deer Lore will drop your success further when killing stag & doe.
Rabbit Lore will drop your success further when killing rabbits & hares.
Boar Loar will drop your success further when killing boar.

When killing something you do not have a Lore for, even at "max ranks" in hunting lore, you'll never have a "perfect" success (the possible exception might be if you use a weapon with a very high bonus to Killing Blow), but will instead have a 50/50 chance to land a Killing Blow, further modified in your favor by any weapon you might choose to use to deal said Killing Blow.

Slashing Block and Wrist Slash now have two new changes in conjunction with each other.

    * If the person triggering the slashing block with an attack does anything that removes a feinting opening, this will also remove the ability to follow up with a wrist slash (such examples are a second attack, being knocked prone, falling back, etc).

    * A wrist slash may only be used once per slashing block. This means you should no longer be able to spam it

Please report any bugs you may find with these changes.

The @email command has received a slight overhaul.

Old system: If you had a valid email address entered in the system you would receive an email any time someone posted in an org forum that you had a character in.

New system: You will need to subscribe to any forums you wish to send you emails via the @email menu.

Being able to subscribe/unsubscribe to emails sent by the system when we reply to bug reports or request OR when another player sends you an @mail still isn't an option as of yet. We hope to add these options in the near future.

Torches will now give you general sense of how much is left when you look at it, or inspect it.

Also, player-crafted torches can now last up to approximately twice as long as store-bought depending on the rank in the torch-crafting skill of the crafter & the roll of the crafting action itself. Effectively, the skill is useful to rank 100+ now, if long-lasting torches are important to you. At rank 1, you can/will make a torch that lasts just as long as one you buy from a shop. But it'll be a poor quality that won't sell well. As you gain more ranks, the torches will last longer, and become better quality (possibly selling for more money). And it just goes up from there, profit capping at high ranks (exact rank depends on certain stats), and the torch burn-length is soft-capped at around x2 normal burn-time.

Fama's shop in Franlius now has it's final stock list (now 30, where it was 28 'special stock' items). The last item to be 'unlocked' is something people have wanted for a long time, so know that the effort/patience is worth it.

I am currently in the process of going through the 14,000 traps that are still lingering in the game. Once the cleanup is complete, snares will completely decay and disappear after 1 real life week (1 in game month). That is the cutoff for my cleaning as well, so current traps will stay.

    • The base damage min & max increase when reforging has gone up to be 'worth it'.
    • Reforging will now be reflected in the weapons's prose when you 'look' at it after having it reforged.

Bernius (the bronze repairer in Franlius) does not buy items. What he does, instead, is accept donated bronze items in exchange for repairs you may need. Basically how this works is you offer him a bronze item and he will ask you what you want him to do with it. Where, with other repairers, you have the choices of "buy" or "fix", with Bernius the choices are "fix" or "donate". If you give him something and then decide you don't want to donate it, you can ask him to "Give it back." and he should return the item you offered him. When you offer him items you wish to have repaired, he will check his records to see if and what you have donated to him recently, and if it is worth the cost of repairing your item. If not, he will inform you that you will need to donate more bronze to him before he can fix the item for you. He does not accept coin as payment for repairs.

This is how he was originally intended to work, but we had overlooked him and it took us a while to get around in setting up his code to act in this manner.

The library guard outside the library will now hold and store your weapons for you if you wish to enter the library. To have him return them to you when you leave just ask him to RETURN MY WEAPONS.

Note: You must hand him your weapons one at a time. If you try to hand a group or a sack to him he will not be interested.
