Forums Reversion

The cloud server that hosts the main Skotos web site and the forums experienced a hardware failure on Saturday morning that unfortunately led to severe database corruption. Several attempts to restore it failed.

This led us to our backups, but the timing was a bit unfortunate. Since the failure occurred on a weekend morning, we didn't see it until after a new backup occurred, which contained the corrupted data, and which removed our previous daily backup. This forced us to our weekly backup, which was unfortunately at the end of its time: six days old.

So, the forums are back, but we had a six-day reversion.

This should not have affects on the rest of the site, since the majority of our data is saved in our main-user-database or our games, all on remote machines.

Regular follow is no longer broken by approach. There should be no more instances of being disbanded during combat as a result of this. Also note: Creature AI groups were likely affected by this as well, and I suspect it was the cause of them sometimes splitting off instead of fighting together. Keep in mind that you'll be facing proper groups again.

You can now drink from the fountain situated at the Colosseum mark point that has been generously donated to the city by the Silver Wolves gladiator stable.

The skullcaps that are tailor-made can now be worn. The item had not properly been made and has been fixed. If you have any layering issues with the item, please file a @report.

The coathooks found in some of the inn rooms across the city will now be able to hold much larger items (they could not hold sagums, paenulaes, cloaks and so on).

Org Bank Clerks should no longer cause duplication/placement errors with items you mistakenly offer to them, and then forget to get back. Instead of just dropping them on the counter every time, they will only do that if you're still connected and in the same room. Otherwise, they'll deposit them into your personal account and you'll just have to withdraw the item normally.

Also, the Steps Bank org clerk is now positioned second in the room instead of first.

Note: They empty their hands approximately 60 seconds after offering to them, so if you've offered them something by mistake, just wait around a minute.

This might be the definition of a minor bug fix:

You no longer guzzle empty containers of liquid.

In one grand action you tilt your head back, raise an empty clear glass to your lips, and guzzle down some fresh water, finishing it all.
          is now

It is no longer possible to "count people" in the dark, though it will still give you a vague idea of what's around you.

Upon collapse, lean-tos will no longer absorb their stashed/concealed items: These will be added to the primary location's stashes.

It has come to our attention that all canes currently available could be used both as a one-handed crushing weapon, but also as a stave. This issue has been fixed and the canes will no longer be usable as a stave weapon. Canes will now be usable with the One-handed Crushing skillset and walking staffs will now be usable with the Staves skillset.

Locksmiths can no longer work on items that are stored in a container. The item must either be in your hands, on the ground or on a piece of furniture to be able to work on it.

A bug allowed characters to wear a manica (or galerus) on each arm/shoulder and still wield a shield. This is no longer the case. If you do not use a shield, this change will not affect you, as you can still wear two manicas and two galerii. The manica and galerus can only be worn on your weapon arm if you plan on wielding a shield.

Orders for aprons on the tailoring consignment boards were inappropriately calculated and resulted in a loss of money for completing the order. This has been fixed and you will now receive the proper amount of money for completing these orders.

Characters can no longer use the climb command to escape other characters while they are approached.

Long-ranged guarding should be fixed now, and following while engaged or otherwise unable to join the leader should clear up more efficiently as well (you shouldn't get extra follower lines even if you haven't followed.)

Please @report if this is not the case on either point, with detailed circumstances if possible.

The brigand woods should be back to what they were before, more or less:

I've increased the maximum total inhabitants, but limited how many can appear in one spot, so it should still be "busy" without overwhelming skilled hunters.

I've also fixed the errors that was preventing swordsmen from appearing in the groups, so you'll be seeing them again.

@report or otherwise let me know if there are any problems.

Beheading a corpse with a cover in use will no longer 'melt' the cover description into the head. This mean the head will always have 'the head of Joe' instead of 'the head of a man in a hooded cloak'. The cover will remain on the corpse, however.

Thanks to Banic for the 'heads' up.

Pompian, the hairdresser, will no longer have two 'Cascading' options for long hair. One of the two options had been erroneously named 'Cascading' and has now been fixed.

Timber axes could be use with the One-handed Axes skillset and the Two-handed Axes skillset. This has been changed. Timber axes will now only work with the One-handed Axes skillset.

A longstanding issue with brawling has been fixed. When wielding a weapon and using the various brawling attacks, the combat echoes (including critical hits) would not show up properly. You would instead see "You kick at someone and hit! Critical Hit! Your retalq gladius slams harshly against someone's back!" or "You kick at someone, but miss. Someone blocks your retalq gladius with his dagger!". If you notice this happens with any other type of attacks, please @report and we will look into fixing the other ones.

The Steps bath had some lighting issues and despite being underground, you could also see the sky. This has been fixed. A brand new lantern will now light up the room and you will no longer be able to see the sky.

Uvol, the owner of the Net Mending shop, has been thoroughly upgraded. You will now be paid based upon how much work the nets actually require, so there is no need to ignore the more demanding nets. The amount of twine required to repair a net is taken into account as well. Furthermore, Uvol will no longer work like the various shopkeepers and he will pay the same amount of money for the nets regardless of who offers them to him.

Clubs round strike now produces the correct damage type dependant on if you are using a spiked mace or not.

Thanks to Rubico for the report.

The previous fix for the longstanding brawling bug wasn't quite perfect and in very specific situations (mainly lag) would cause some other combat echoes to look quite funny (blocking with your foot while you should have blocked with your weapon). The old fix has been entirely removed, a complete rewrite has been put in place and should no longer cause these irregular echo errors. All echoes (in critical hits, offensive maneuvers and defensive maneuvers) should now always show up properly. If you see any echoes that look strange, please file a @report with the instance you have witnessed.

Similarly to the longstanding brawling bug, shields also had the same issue when bashing with them. Shield critical hits were also affected. Both regular Shield and Pardelian skills that use the shield to attack will now show the proper echoes.

Several critical hits had typo errors in them and have been fixed (unrelated to the previous fixes, just noticed while testing). I am sure there are still some out there, so please @report those typos!

Containers that can hold water can no longer be filled up while closed. You must open the container before filling it with water.
