Skotos Forums Closing: September 30

The Skotos Forums are officially closing on September 30, 2020. They will go read-only on that date, and will be removed entirely sometime afterward.

We encourage the games that spun off of Skotos to create new discussion mediums of their own, and some have already done so. But the centralized discussions for Skotos will soon be a thing of the past (just as the centralized Skotos site is).

We've also posted a goodbye message to the community on our main page, which you can find here:

Actually, this game is all about role playing. Stats are only important for high end pvp, and other non-roleplay stuff. This is a roleplaying game, in ancient roman-like times, where not everyone is a super-hero, nor should everyone try to be a super hero. There are still many people who have characters they main, who are just roleplaying props, not combat monkies.

Not just empathy but all stats. The opaqueness in this game has not value it is a detriment to players. If you want people to try the game make it so they know what kind of character they are rolling. Nothing worse than jumping into a game and getting to know it and develop a character and then realize that he/she is actual crap. Wasting months to find out that you made bad decisions does not foster an environment in which new players will want to continue to play. This isn't giving away the code or some other nonsense it is allowing players, which could become paying customers, a way to enjoy the game. And let's face it at the end of the day this game is all about stats. To me not letting people know how to build their character is disingenuous as you are forcing them to make a poor choice. Either accept a shitty character and then spend a lot of money to fix or trash months of work. Both are unacceptable.

effects bartering, ability to control dogs, and gives a very SMALL increase to combat. If you are not a broker, don't worry about it. You can compensate for lack of empathy with a few ranks. If dexterity is 2/1 and perception is 4/1 empathy is like 12/1

    Empathy

Would it be possible for a GM to finally just close the book on the empathy debate? What does empathy do for combat?

Considering raising it is only available via story points at a crazy conversion rate...I think it's only fair that we at least have some iota of an idea of what it is effecting? Even if you do max it out with story points you'll never actually max it because there's no way to get the 10 "freebie" stats each stat has on character creation.

I have 79 increases left in empathy on my main. That's roughly a $2000 investment AND 13 months of waiting due to story point purchase limits. I'm hesitant to spend time and money on a stat that Japes off-handedly said in a one-liner effects combat years ago.

I'd be more likely to spend my money if I could make a calculated decision based on facts over speculation.

Any transparency on this would be greatly appreciated considering we have a general understanding of the other combat stats.

Working...
