Forums Reversion

The cloud server that hosts the main Skotos web site and the forums experienced a hardware failure on Saturday morning that unfortunately led to severe database corruption. Several attempts to restore it failed.

This led us to our backups, but the timing was a bit unfortunate. Since the failure occurred on a weekend morning, we didn't see it until after a new backup occurred, which contained the corrupted data, and which removed our previous daily backup. This forced us to our weekly backup, which was unfortunately at the end of its time: six days old.

So, the forums are back, but we had a six-day reversion.

This should not have affects on the rest of the site, since the majority of our data is saved in our main-user-database or our games, all on remote machines.

  • Leaving objects lying around...

I'd like to take a moment to discuss the proliferation of objects around the colony...

For those of you who may not realize, objects that you can manipulate (i.e. pick up carry around and put someplace else) if left in the public spaces take up space on the server even after you leave. They are persistent and they do not simply vanish after a few minutes. If there are man y of these loose objects lying around the colony they require extra processing time by the server and can slow the server down, meaning Lag time for evveryone. Please - if you have changed a battery in your rifle or pistol, have too much to carry and end up dumping some items, please go back and pick them up later, and dispose of them. If you are doing Assignments for Dr. Phibes, please put your digital papers in the trash cans that are located around the colony (in front of the Apartment building, Science Building and by the Patio eatery, are some of them).

Items in your apartment are in a virtual space, they do not count, as they are tracked in a different manner (if I recall correctly the explaination I was given).

Thank you for keeping the colony a clean place!

Depends on which type of battery you have - Rifle batteries are worth 20 credits. Also you can sell the Neural devices (for fishing) there as well, and non-fossil rocks.
