Bringing your Coin Purse

I was just curious to how people would think Castle Marrach would change if money was added to it. Nothing major like on Eternal City, just some gold or silver coins to add a small bit of currency. I know some people think bartering is enough, but for the 11th rank there isn't much to barter. Who's gonna trade for simple common clothing or a lead bracelet? (Really, who wants lead poisoning from jewelry!?)
Maybe coins exchanged for fancy clothings and finer metals of jewelry. Make for some small commerse for the finer things of Castle Marrach.

I'm not saying it need it, just how do you think it would affect it. Not everyone knows how to brownnose their way to getting a simple blanket for their bed, or has the items to even barter for a rare item like that. I think it could be fun, but I love making people rant so respond.

There is a treasury, as well as coins floating around IC.

I think what needs to be realized is that Marrach -does- have a currency, although not the type we'd normally assume. The currency is favours. Favouritism, exchanges of favours and abilities, friendships, enemies... all calculate down into various ways for your character to get, or not get what he or she needs or doesn't need WITHOUT ever having to touch money.

I'm quite glad there's no currency in CM. It would be another one of those "Rich get Richer while the poor get poorer" scenarios... and we all know we've got enough of that IC to drive people to distraction.

Also take a look here for a very similar suggestion.

Um actally, I use a curency here. Ask some of the traders I have worked with, or some of the spys I have payed in solid and non solid goods. However its a flexable curency, sometimes jewlry, sometimes favor. A bit of info here, or a word said to another for them there.

I've done quite a bit of trading since Groge appeared. I think bartering is so much more fun - haggling with items is just nicer than haggling with coin, I guess.

*rubs his grubby little hands together* And I can't wait until I'm big and important enough to really start using my favour as a "currency."

Frankly, I think money just creates problems in an online game. I watched prices inflate in Ultima Online for a few years (houses went from like 20,000 gold to 1,000,000 gold or something), and people using macros to pump out immense amounts of basic goods to sell to NPCs... yeah, well. I do agree, we can do just fine without money.

Favour can get you some of the finer things in life just as easy - or easier.

Oh, please don't use UO as an example of a system. Some silly things happen in UO.

Furthermore, Ultima Online just ruined the entire series of Ultima games.

There are games in developement, and ones already existing that have a cash based economy. If its something you're looking for you can try the games that exist now, or wait a few months for the Builders to finish up the games in developement.
