Well, I guess it's my turn...

So, I come back to college with its super fast connection that I knew wouldn't make me play in a perpetual world of lag like my crappy phone connection at home, and what do I find out?

The techies changed pretty much everything about security and the firewall on the network during summer.

Alice won't work (though it never did here), Zealous won't load at all, and even Telnet, which I loathe and would only use in extreme cases, does not allow me to stay logged in game, because it crashes at anything.

Of course, even with a large amount of begging, complaining, and/or bribing, the computer techies won't open Port 443 for me.

And seeing my parents need my old computer at home and that I do not have the money to get another one to put in my dorm room and set it up with another internet connection independant from the college's one, I can also say goodbye to this option.

So, unless some miracle occurs or I manage to work something out to play, you won't see anymore of me in Marrach.

I'll give it a few weeks at most before cancelling my account seeing it's kinda useless to pay for it if I can't even use it.

I won't say goodbye yet, because there still might be something I could do that I haven't figured out yet, but until it's official, I apologize to all the players and characters my characters and I are involved with for our absence, temporary or not. I'm sorry I couldn't give you guys a valid IC reason for being gone.

I'll continue to roam the forums and I'll try to be on ICQ and AIM whenver I can, for those interested (you guys know who you are).

Let's hope things will work out... Until then, see you.

Gaby

Enought to support them, their families, and assorted kin for the rest of their lives--otherwise it's not worth it to them to be fired if it's been discovered that they've did some 'illegal'work to the College system.

Have you tried a different browser? Such as netscape... or pehaps a different telnet client. Like the free zmud that I use.

dunno if they might work, but I wouldn't give up just yet...

Netscape uses Zealous now, so yes, I have tried it.

As for ZMud, I can't install programs on these machines, but I'll see what I can do.

My offer to burn ZMud to a disc and mail it to you still stands.

My brother had a similar problem. His dorm room had things banned by the college. No one could get onto anything. My father put his computer onto his network, though, and he was the only one with full access.

Might help, might not.

Probably not considering she's using the school's computers and not her own.

This doesn't seem very... right.

Blocking port 443 on a network is pretty much like shooting yourself in the foot, as that port is generally used for most secure web transactions.

Maybe it's just me, but if you kids can't order your stuff online, the network seems more than a little limited

I'm starting to think it's something the technies screwed up with in the registry or something since I was able to log on just fine on my roomie's computer. She's connected with the school, but uses a different version of Windows.

Damn techies. *shakes fist*

Edit: It's not the cookies, I checked. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to log into my account and in the forums.

And oddly enough, every single machine seems to have it's own problems. That's so screwed up! I'm so annoyed I'm developping an eyebrow twitch here.
