Escape from a Magical Prison

6th Day, 8th Moon, Year Seven of the Recent Awakenings

Escape from a Magical Prison

To the Denizenry of Her Majesty's Castle Marrach: in accordance to the will of the Lord Chamberlain, upholding the duties charged to me as Senior Chronicler, I hereby submit the chronicle of an Escape from a Magical Prison.

Upon the 6th day of the 8th moon, Master Ali-Jahib's Honored First Wife came into the Outer Bailey's Gate courtyard in great perturbation. She carried a most peculiar painting with her, and asked those present to find her someone skilled in the Magical Arts or Sorcery to assist her. The painting of a quaint thatched cottage set in a beautiful garden seemed to move and shimmer; it seemed as if smoke rose from the chimney and candles twinkled inside. The painting had a very warm feel to it. It looked meticulously well-maintained, and even had a wreath of holly to welcome people into the house. The colors were amazingly bright, seeming to portray a sunny autumn day.

Apparently the painting was a part of a mixed lot of goods offered to her in a private trade. On noticing its magical aura, the Honored First Wife sought assistance, and was astonished to find its nature was not the usual magical glamour, but something more mysterious.

Soon, a small crowd had gathered, with Lady Avaria and Sir Vestio taking charge of a serious investigation into the painting. Ser Earen, a bound Sorceror, first confirmed that the painting did indeed have a unique magical aura, and then Initiate Ammanas agreed: "It is unlike a normal one...alive would perhaps be the best way to sum it up." They determined to make contact with the painting, to learn its nature more fully, and - much to their astonishment - sensed that some sort of presence was living inside the painting.

As the watchers viewed tensely, Ammanas extended his abilities, and learned that there were two presences - a man and a woman - in the painting, and that they desired nothing so much as to get out of it. With a look of intense concentration, Ammanas 'pulled' them out of the painting, and the vibrant colors swirled from the canvas and enveloped the entire courtyard, out stepped two denizens of past renown: ser Tyr Gunn and sera Airlia Beaumains, Royal Painters. After that, the canvas turned blank.

Gasps of recognition greeted the pair, as they recognized old friends. The Honored First Wife was indignantly upset: "This one knew it! Hairs on the neck! Standing upright! Wait until Master hears." Lady Avaria finally shook her head, "A shame [that the canvas is blank]. It was a nice painting."

This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as I humbly ask that the readers indicate to me any falsehood I may have mistakenly communicated. It is through the preservation of the Past that we continue to serve Her Grace and give strength to those that will follow.

In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, the Lord Chamberlain, the Chronicler's Office, and the Denizenry of our Gracious Queen's Realm;
