Death & Ghosts

Some of you may have noticed a few dead PCs around the game.
Just a quick note to say that the ghosts that have been seen in-game are there because of approved (player-run) plot reasons, and not all dead characters automatically become ghosts haunting the game.

If your character dies, your ghost will be in a waiting room until your body is resurrected, unless you've requested (and been approved) to be a ghost as part of a plot.

I don't want to put blocks between those who are ghosts and RP, so please everyone take this as just a personal opinion, but I am afraid of ghosts losing some mystique. It is a natural thing in any game to say 'X did something, perhaps I can do that and just add a little'. Specifically ghosts communicating seems to be advancing with each ghost.

Ghosts can't speak except in ghostly sounds using the parser. Alesexia could sort of possess people and share a few words before popping out and even then she gave up trying. Grim over time started holding conversations with those who would hold his gaze.

In both cases this was using @wb person 'text' dynamic, which is really an OOC thing. If the staff want to put in an IC way for ghosts to talk, I'm up for it, but I'm afraid ghosts will sort of lose any mystery as they appear over the months and years and we become blase about them communicating using @wb.

(I really want to emphasize, I don't mean this as an attack on Grim or Alesexia's player or other PCs with ghosts. Both made good RP out of it all for folk involved. I'm just a bit unsure where it leads if we take it for granted, thus the purpose of this is more to discuss the idea going forward.)

This is utterly just a personal opinion, and I want to defer to those who are actually dead, but perhaps stepping back from having ghosts being able to use OOC tools to communicate in full conversations would keep ghosts somewhat mysterious.

I'd be curious other opinions.

Ghosts speak ghost. This is intentional. Ghosts cannot change languages. This is intentional. If we wished for ghosts to communicate freely, we would not have done this. If we need otherworldly rules and guidelines, we will post them. Do not continue any questionable action.

Thanks. Have fun.

...and just for clarification. It takes days (in the number of 3 or more RL days) for a body to be resurrected. So don't consent to death (either by requesting a staff member kills you or by entering an area that specifically warns you that your character could die) unless you are also willing to wait out this delay.

I, of course, suggest playing alts in the meantime. Being dead is pretty boring.

Cheers!
